Hi Everyone,

I could really use a little bit of help in figuring out which school would be better to join. I'm an Indian national and I have 8 years in technology and I want to remain in the tech industry post MBA. I'm open to the type or role or function as long as the industry stays the same. I have admits from 2 schools at the moment - NUS in Singapore and ISB in India. Both are comparably ranked and both are very strong brands in their respective regions. I've worked in India most of my career but I've had short stints in the West as well. Ideally, I'd like to experience the Asia Pacific (Singapore preferably) region after my MBA but then there is an inherent risk with Singapore because of the stricter immigration laws.

Each school has it's pros and cons but I'd like to get your opinions on which school would be better for me in the long run. If you could please pitch in with your thoughts, it would really go a long way in helping me make my decision.

Thank you to you all in advance.

Hi,
In present day circumstances I would choose ISB over NUS unless you have a very strong reason to move to Sg or join NUS. Why?

In Sg, NUS doesn't give you any exclusivity, almost every1 in Sg is from NTU/NUS. ISB will make you exclusive in the Indian job market probably in the same league as IIT/IIM.

Moreover, I wasn't very impressed with the career services at NUS (I know LOT of people at NUS). Its hardly a comparison to the ISB's placement team which is super active.

Sg is a very small market. Even if you do NUS MBA you're like from an second rank school (best being INSEAD) even in this small geography. Moreover, most of MNCs in Sg have a tendency to directly transfer people from there overseas offices instead of hiring locally, this is specially true as you grow up in ladder. So in long-term, I'm not sure if you'll stay competitive in the Sg market with an NUS MBA. Compare that to ISB, it'll be a brand attached to you for life and you'll always be the preferred guy in the Indian market (which is much much bigger compared to the tiny-miny Sg market)

These r just a few points.

Disclaimer: I am an NUS alum myself and I LOVED my experience, did my MSc from NUS. NUS will undoubtedly give you amazing facilities. infrastructure is superb, faculty will be some of the best paid and highly knowledgeable, cohort will be nice and friendly etc. etc. -These r some of the intangible benefits of NUS. I personally didn't applied to NUS and have an admit from ISB as well.

Again please take my views with a pinch of salt as when I did my research I had my profile/target industries in mind. Things may be totally different for some1 else as every1 has different goals and priorities in life :-D
