Admissions consulting for EMBA programs?

Does anyone have experience with using any of the admissions consultants for EMBA applications? What has your experience been? Are you aware of success rate?

I speak with a lot of candidates who are either interested in an EMBA or are thinking about both an MBA and EMBA because of their age/work experience. At top EMBA programs like Chicago the EMBA application is just as complicated and intense as the regular MBA application. At schools where that is the case, using a consultant can be beneficial and can make you a more competitive candidate. That said, there are EMBA programs out there that don't even require the GMAT or essays. In those cases I would turn to a consultant for school advice as well as help rewriting your resume before you apply. A lot of the MBA programs have contact people or pre-applications - basically you send in your resume and they screen it and pretty much tell you whether you would be a good candidate at their program.

Unless you are applying to a top EMBA program or full-time executive program such as Stanford's MSx or Sloan's Fellows program you should be working with an admissions consultant on a la carte services such as resume rewriting, not full on school packages.

Hi,

One of the biggest benefits of hiring a consultant would be having a guide/coach who can walk you through a guided journey of self-discovery - in terms of career goals (which would be different for you at the executive stage vs. normal career goals) -

1) are they realistic.
2) are they too realistic - meaning do they lack ambition?
3) do you need an MBA/EMBA to achieve your career goals?
4) If you've discovered that you do, in fact, need management education - how exactly is it going to help? Is the brand of the school important - meaning network and future growth potential - or are you just seeking scholarship?

As far as the application process itself is concerned, there are a few schools that have an easy application, while there are some that require you to jump through the same hoops that they make the younger candidates jump through - except they want to make sure that your accomplishments reflect the number of years of experience that you have.
