What is everything thinking about loans? Faced with 8.5% on gradplus, does it make sense to take out private, or at least maybe split them 50/50?

I'm planning to take the GradPLUS, but it depends how much interest rate risk you're comfortable with. Even if you get a private loan at prime, there's a decent chance that prime will recover to match the 8.5% fixed GradPLUS rate. Today prime is 3.25%. A year ago it was 5%. Two years ago it was 8.25%. While the longer it takes for the economy to recover, the more likely rates are to stay low, I'm personally not a fan of entering into a variable rate loan when rates are at historic lows.

Damn, I was just admitted off the waitlist a few days ago. I missed DAK, so I'll have to read all 38 pages of this thread to get a better understanding of things. So far, the items that I must complete ASAP are:

1) Fin Aid App (FAFSA is already complete)
2) McManus app
3) Register for KWEST trip on 5/20

Any other extracurricular activities I missed?

Congratulations!

I think the next big deadline is July 1. There is a to-do list on the Welcome page that has everything you need to prepare.

Once you pay your deposit, get your aid done, apply for housing if need be, register for KWEST; you also have to:
Buy a Laptop
Complete the Health/physical forms
and of course let us know if you are joining us in the fall.

Shameless plug leading up to KWEST Registration:

KWEST Hong Kong/Macao! Glitz, glamor, and gastronomy. That's the 3G framework for those counting.

Haha. Oh, I'm all over this. Already exercising my finger so that I'll be ready to hit the refresh button continuously around that time.

Another McManus update, apparently they're "aiming to get the lottery done" by middle of next week. After that, if you get a room, you apparently have two weeks to send in the $300 deposit via check or wire transfer. FYI.

What's everyone thinking as a top 5? In no particular order, here are mine:

Bermuda
Brazil
Dominican Republic
Honduras
British Virgin Islands

Anyone else care to share?

This will probably change between now and Wednesday, but currently my top 5 list is:
1. Egypt
2. Morocco
3. British Virgin Islands
4. Croatia
5. Greece

1. Greece
2. Spain
3. Brazil
4. Croatia
5. Mystery :)

While Eygpt and Morocco sound amazing, the amount of travelling involved in those 2 trips seems excessive.

i'm torn between trips that sound relaxing and chill (beaches, boats) and ones that push you a little outside the comfort zone (ziplining, rafting, etc)...i can go on the relaxing ones at any point in my life...so i may go for more adventure...either way it has to be somewhere warm
