Right now I'm:

1. Mystery
2. Morocco
3. Egypt
4. Italy
5. Playa del Carmen

Although Morocco and Egypt are in a dead heat going into tomorrow. I'm willing to risk Mystery going somewhere I've spent a lot of time already, since I just think the whole idea of not knowing where you're going is fun.

Alright! I have ten trips identified for the top 10. Now I just need to rank them :)

Some of the ten: mystery, turkey, Italy, hong kong, munich/budapest, japan, croatia.

All (except mystery) meet the following criteria:
- strong likelihood I won't injure myself by falling off mountains/horses/ropes/volcanoes
- strong likelihood I won't injure my KWEST group members by taking them with me when I fall off mountains/horses/ropes/volcanoes
- minimal time laying around on a beach (I get bored!)
- no camping (pay to sleep on the ground? that doesn't make sense!)

I'm still waiting to hear back from the KWEST Visa folks about how getting one works for mystery!

From what I know the mystery trip will give you a packing list like all the other trips but they will include random items and a mix of clothing that will confuse you. (so medium winter coat, shorts, and 20 feet of rope).

To narrow it down to 10 and rank them is harder than I thought....arghhh

I think I want somewhere cultural without sacrificing too much of the comfort and fun.

Playa Del Carmen, Trinidad Tobago and Morocco is on the list but I've also included places that I'm not sure I'll visit usually (e.g. Dominican Republic, Belize)

Iceland is a bit of a random pick but northern lights! I'll help out their economy a little bit :)

I would obviously support those who chose Hong Kong! However, make sure u bring more than budgeted cos it'll be sales sales sales :P

Yeah, I'm having a tough time narrowing this down and an even tougher time ranking. Here's my current top 10, which changes on an hourly basis:
1. Egypt (easy #1 for me)
2. Morocco (easy #2)
3. Turkey
4. Belize
5. BVI
6. Costa Rica
7. Greece
8. Croatia
9. Hong Kong
10. Honduras

Do let me know when you find this out.

Regarding the other trips, I assume they will provide relevant documents for the visa (tickets, hotel reservations etc.)

I'm definitely wanting a place that is a) tropical and warm b) involves water sports (especially fishing) and c) has a great nightlife. I also want someplace I've never been and may never go on my own.

Therefore here is my top 10 at the moment:

1. BVI (only complaint is it's Mon-Sat)
2. Bermuda (Blue marlin season is July-August!)
3. Brazil
4. Dominican Republic (just too many cool things)
5. Belize
6. Greece
7. Curacao and Bonaire
8. Panama
9. Costa Rica
10. Jamaica

River, Steel, which of your top 10 did you guys get last year? #1, #2, #3? Any idea how far down the list the trip leaders might have to go to assign us to our trips?

I got my #1, most people get their 1-3 usually. Unless you dont sign online for a day or two. One thing to remember is that (at least last year) you have need to have 10 trips to fill in all the spots, you cant submit with just 5 or 8 or 9...You MUST have 10. Once a trip fills up they remove it from the list so you can't select it. My advice have a list of your top 12-15. Some trips fill up within 5 minutes. They have slots for people so a trip will have x number of places for couples, x number for internationals...basically they try to keep it diverse so its not all white dudes from the US or something.

Key take aways:
Have a few extra trips picked (you should never get stuck going on your last pick but just incase)
Never refresh once you get into the area...if you refresh you lose your spot in line and trips might disappear off the list
Sign on as quickly as possible and have all the information they tell you to have in front of you
Remember your life supposed to be a secret during the trip, so if you are on the same trip with someone you know from on here keep anything you know about them to yourself.

That was one question I had. Is it difficult to carry on conversations with people when you can't ask them about their life (or tell them about yours)?

Don't worry, they'll put 1 bulletproof vest in the item list if that's the case.

You can't ask them about their lives or talk about yours??? What are you supposed to talk about?

You aren't supposed to talk about where you went to school and what for, what you did for a living, where you lived prior to school, couples aren't even supposed to say who is the student who isnt. It sounds tough but its not too tough, its actually a great way to get to know people beyond that. Plus you will be repeating the information over and over the first few months of school, so its a nice break from the elevator pitch. It also allows students who worked in positions that a lot of folks want to pursue, how would you like spending a week answering tons of questions about working McKinsey, Goldman Sachs, Pepsi, or something along those lines.

It sounds harder than it is and it definitely allows you to get to know people on a different level. Too many of us are identified by things that really dont make us who we are...so why not let people get to know each other as people not as an employee for company x or an alum of school y.

What is the general rule for following the itinerary on these trips? If you want to pass on one or two things that don't appeal to you, can you? I'm sure you aren't forced to do every activity with a gun to your head, but can you legitimately pass on a group activity without offending the leaders/group and alienating yourself a little bit? For example, if you are on the trip to Rio and want no part of the multiple dancing lessons they have listed in the itinerary, can you and another student, or you and your JV just pass on those activities without it becoming an issue and bothering a group? Or should we only be signing up for trips where we are going to want to participate in 100% of the activities?
