Do you guys happen to know when the deadline to sign up for KWEST is?

Just curious, are there other people besides myself who may not be able to go? Would you be interested in participating in an alternative "Chicago KWEST" where we spend two or three days doing stuff in the Chicago area before school?
I've already signed up but have also been curious about the deadline. I've seen no mention of a date anywhere, although they do refer to a supposed "deadline" on the website.

I'm down. After moving my family internationally, the last thing I want to do is...travel internationally. I've been fortunate to have traveled (and partied) all over the world, and my family is definitely a higher priority these days.

That said, the part of KWEST I'm most interested in is the whole "Building Friendships" part, so I think we should definitely do a KWEST not trip. Maybe a Cubs game one day, the Field Museum or Shedd Aquarium another day, a trip up to Lake Geneva perhaps, as well as some awesome meals.

So far, Gil maybe and I. Anyone else?

monkbent, dont you have a kid? Aren't you going to do the family KWEST. Thats the cheapest trip and is in the US.

Remember you guys will have two years in Chicago, leave some stuff to do when friends and family visiting. Seeing the same sites over and over can get old.

River, if I was doing KWEST that's the exact one I would do. However, I'm hoping to live in McManus. Move-ins are the day before KWEST trips start (although that trip is on Monday), which leaves hardly any time to get the place set up, help the wife find her way around (keep in mind this will be her first time living in the States), buy groceries, etc. Then, right after that is CIM, where I don't expect to have any time at all.

Again, for me, KWEST sounds awesome because of the relationships you can develop. All of the other stuff is not a big deal to me, and in comparison with what my family needs, are in fact deterrents.

Anyhow, that's why I like the Chicago KWEST idea. If 85% go on KWEST, that means 15% don't - that's a lot of friends to make in a week! Oh, and I'm already bored by Chicago (grew up in Madison), so no worries there...

Most people who don't go on KWEST wont be in Chicago. Moving into McManus is super easy, its like moving into a hotel since you dont have to get furniture and all that stuff. Whole foods is within walking distance so you can easily get stuff there to hold you over for a few days. CIM is busy but I think a lot of that is due to so many people do very active KWEST trips so they are pretty worn out.

Its not a huge issue to miss KWEST but it is nice to have that connection with a bunch of people. Especially 2nd years who are a great resource for classes, life at school in general...though my KWEST leaders all seemed to be pretty anti GIM so a bunch of us didnt do it and then this year it sounded like their complaints with GIM were addressed and people had an amazing time.

I'm still debating whether or not to go. My wife can't come and it kind of sucks to just move to the US and then leave her immediately behind for a week. On the other hand, I understand it is a major part of the Kellogg experience.

I dont think you will miss out too much by not going if you decide not to. Some of my best friends didn't go on a trip and they aren't missing out too mcuh. However, I also know some people who went without their JV. If you dont do KWEST then plan to do ski trip or something like that involved with the school. A week long trip wont make or break your experience here so dont stress it too much.

So when do we hear about the KWEST trips ?
Early July, I think.

See KWEST FAQ at https://kellogg-kwest.ecampusgroups.com ... =3&id=4486

Here's the relevant question:

When will I find out what trip I am assigned to?
Trip assignments will tentatively be done between June 15, 2009 and July 1, 2009. During that time we will work to assign all incoming students to trips. Trip leaders will be notified of who is on their trip during the first week of July. Shortly thereafter emails will be sent to the incoming students notifying them of which trip they will be on.

For those of you that have selected their loan providers, who did you go with? For me, it seems Wells Fargo offers the best options for Grad Plus and Discover has the best incentives for Stafford. Any thoughts?

Call them and ask what's up. Maybe they just forgot to send you an email?

I think my final financial aid took a while...they give you the preliminary stuff very quickly and then it took a long time to finalize. Don't worry, scholarships wont go down. I infact got more added in the final version.

I chose Discover for both. They were definitely the best for Stafford. I didn't study the sheet in great detail, but I recall all of the lenders having the same terms for GradPLUS, so I figured I would stick to just the one lender.

It seems like Discover only approves around 60% of applicants for GradPLUS (one of the lowest rates), so maybe I'll end up with one of the others after all.

Yeah, on second glance, it does look like all of the lenders terms are the same. I saw on the Wells Fargo benefits an additional 0.50% deduction in the interest rate, but it seems to only apply to the Wells Fargo Graduate private loan. I guess it doesn't matter for GradPlus loans.

I got waitlisted at McManus.

I'm not gonna lie - this is pretty devastating. I thought there was preference given both to families and students living internationally. I am completely unprepared to live somewhere else. Moreover, I was really counting on the other families being a support network for my wife (who is an international moving to the States for the first time), as well as being able to sneak home more often than not.

Really really really really really disappointed, and shocked.
