I have a bunch of friends who live in Optima Horizons, one lives on a lower floor facing the tracks and when I have been in his unit I never really noticed it. They don't run as often at night and while the trains are louder than cars they aren't like a jet or anything. If you are more than half way up or facing in the other direction you will be fine unless you are a crazy light sleeper. The only noise complaints I have heard from anyone have been about loud neighbors and that doesnt matter what building you live in...its luck of the draw.

Rumor has it that they filled out this years class, so any WL that come out now will be if more people drop out than expected from this point on. They always take some visa, health, financing, and other issues into account.

Sigh...

The way Kellogg structured my loans in Caesar forced Discover to reject me for some of GradPLUS because of overlapping periods. :(

I had a couple of questions about orientation. river, Steel.. could you guys just confirm the following for me:

I've heard orieantation is pretty bad-ass and we are also going to have stuff to do over the weekend, so no sense making any weekend plans. Since orientation starts August 31st and school starts September 21st, I was wondering whether this is applicable to the last weekend also. I was planning on a trip the weekend of Sept 19th. So, I was wondering if orientation finishes on the 18th and we would have 19/20th off or would it go through all the way till the 20th.

I don't want to miss any essential activities, but if we have Sat/Sun off, then I'd definitely want to be out that weekend.

A bit of info on the financial aid timeline that I got from the financial aid office yesterday:

- After you tell Kellogg financial aid which lenders you'd like to use, they have to certify the loans before you sign the master promissory note. They will not be certifying loans until July, so the final paperwork won't be done until then.
- The disbursement of funds into our personal banking accounts will be on Sept. 21, which is the official first day of classes.

CIM ball might be on that weekend since it usually ends orientation. I would not book anything until October if I were you. Its not that you can't miss stuff on weekends but you will be so worn out from CIM that you probably wont enjoy your trip as much. You could ask student affairs what the schedule looks like for CIM, they probably will have some idea of when stuff is.

Last year CIM ball was at the end of the first week of classes. Your final exam for MORS will be that Friday (I assume the 18th). I believe last year the equivalent of the 19th/20th were totally free from official activities (I mean I had Flag Football and a Cork and Screw wine tasting on my calendar for that Sunday last September lol).

Now the schedule can always change this year - so you'd probably want to check with Student Affairs/CIM Exec. But my bet would be that you'll be fine and will only essentially miss a lot of partying and some fun activities - not anything "official". But again, that's only based on last year - and with a new Exec team, that could easily change.

Haha.. Agree with that! The only reason I am considering it is because I might be getting box seats for the Cowboys-Giants game that weekend! :-D

That's just about the only reason I'm tempted, otherwise I wouldn't even be thinking about it.

Thanks for inputs, river and Steel. I'll probably e-mail the exec committee and then decide.

Believe me - I remember those days of uninhibited partying fondly. Not to have any worries of work or recruiting was a glorious time. I'm hoping 2nd year provides many of these same opportunities :)

You guys may have guessed it from the fact that I was looking at apartments in Evanston, but today it became official - I withdrew from Booth and decided to go with my heart.

At the end of the day, it was a question of fit, and when I saw Chicago sent out a lot more homework for the summer I knew immediately where I belonged:) (just kidding of course).

I am really excited. Can't wait to meet you all in person next year!

Thanks:)

I was originall waitlisted at Chicago which was originally my first choice... admitted to Kellogg R1 and waitlisted at Chicago. I eventually got admitted along with the R2 candidates to Booth, but apparently it was too late - my visit to Kellogg made me fall in love with the School.

CIM has a ball? Who knew! I thought it was just pseudo-bonding activities like team races, dance-offs, human knots, etc.
