Hi, longtime lurker, first time poster. I applied a little more than 10 weeks ago, interviewed about 3 weeks later and haven't heard a peep from McCombs since. I know I should probably hear back within the next couple weeks, given the 10-13 week decision period cited on the website, but I'm getting more concerned that I may not have adequately signaled to McCombs my interest in enrolling if accepted... I interviewed with an local alum (on the west coast) rather than flying into Austin and, didn't do all that well in the interview either. I'm considering emailing admissions and reiterating my interest in the program (basically telling them that I think it's a great fit and that I will enroll if accepted). I can't decide if this is a good idea or if the anxiety of this wait is clouding my better judgment. I'm interested to hear anyone's thoughts.
As a recent admit who waited 12 weeks, I believe the answer is no you shouldn't contact McCombs. For one thing, you had your essays and your interview to convey your interest in the program. They wouldn't have interviewed you if that wasn't the case. Secondly, I didn't hear a word from them either. Don't panic, they will get back to you one way or another. If anything, it would probably hurt your candidacy. There is no reason to contact the Adcom unless it's been past 13 weeks or you have additional information that could improve your application (higher GMAT, new promotion). If you really want to show your interest, fly down to Austin, visit a class, talk with students, and show them that way. Hassling the Adcom, in my opinion, will not make a difference.
Don't worry about whether you flew into Austin for your interview or not, they explicitly say that it gives no additional weight to their decision. And besides, even if did come on campus to interview, it's with a 2nd year student, not anyone from Adcom, which a lot of people think is the case. In fact, I only live 3 hours from Austin and I elected to interview locally instead of driving in for my interview. And I got in! However, I did make it a point to contact students, mention this in my essay, and make a visit to the campus last fall. I do believe all of these moves paid dividends for me, and i didn't have to contact the Adcom.
I would recommend just staying patient and whatever happens, will happen. Best of luck and hope this helps.
