Their actual application is pretty screwy, too. The multiple status checks, the requirement of sending official transcripts to another part of the university, and the delay before they accept payment add up.

Then, once I received an interview invite, I had to contact 6 alumni, including one that explicitly said they weren't interviewing before finding one that would even reply. And the person I interviewed scheduled it over his lunch break, showed up late, and had to cut the interview short because he had to get back to work.

On top of that, I'm still looking at the decision taking up to 14 weeks from when I submitted my application, and 9 weeks after my interview. (granted, there's 2 weeks for a holiday, but that's still bad).

I realize a rolling admissions process adds some complications, but it's still been a very frustrating experience.

There's definitely room for improvement in the whole process. As someone who really liked McCombs, I'm worried this is turning off a lot of good candidates who can potentially be my peers if I get in.

Hmm... I just called admissions to check on my application status (I applied 10/22, paid my fee 10/25 and interviewed on 12/2). Without asking for my name or ID, they referred me to the website to check my status and told me that a decision could take 10-12 weeks from the interview.

I tried calling again today in hopes that I got a different answer. The person I talked to today was more sympathetic and told me that I should have a decision 10-12 weeks from the date all my materials were submitted.

Hope this helps those of us who are wondering when we're going to hear back!

Did anyone take the GRE? Many top-ranked MBA schools started taking it this year...I took it since my vocabulary is stronger. However, I am not sure how UT admissions perceives the GRE... and unfortunately there is no historical data surrounding averages, ranges, etc..

I still haven't gotten my request for payment...hmmm...it's funny that I'm begging them to let me pay them, right? Haha.

Just FYI, in a convo with a GIAC employee, I was told they're migrating to a new application system within the next 2 years, so I think they know that theirs isn't perfect.

When did you submit your application? I am in the same boat. So silly.

I guess I will defer my app to 2013 when they have a decent system for apps.

1/15 (yea, after the deadline). I got a letter from GIAC saying that they will mark everyone who applied before the R2 deadline as "Paid" for paperwork purposes, so you should be fine. Me on the other hand, who knows. It sounds like it going to take them a while to get everything sorted out. Ugh.

I agree. Better systems obviously already exist. Why aren't they using it now? Why would it take two years to change it?

Does the AD Com create a new UT ID when they start reviewing our application? I got an email with the new UT ID--is this normal?

This happened to me. After I called them I was told that my name in my application did not matched EXACTLY the one I of my GMAT & TOEFL ...

Call them and ask them to merge your two UT IDs so your documentation can me matched with your application. Otherwise, your application will not be considered complete.

Ha, this is something that happened to me, too, that I forgot to mention when describing the problems with my app. I just had them merged.

I have called them a couple of times, but am unable to get through. I know how to merge them and then will send them an email that I have done it.
Which ID did you guys retain? the original or the latter?

I retained the original. They suggested I retained that one, but I don't think it really matters.
