(A) buyers can choose among bronze, silver, gold, and platinum plans, there are
no proper connection after the comma and 'there are'

(B) because buyers can choose bronze, silver, gold, or platinum, there are
suggests a cause and effect with the word ' because'. This is not necessary

(C) however, buyers can choose among bronze, silver, gold, and platinum, and
The word "however" does not appropriately convey the contrast or contradiction between the first and second parts of the sentence. The use of "and" is also unnecessary.
(D) buyers can choose among bronze, silver, gold, platinum plans, but
This option effectively conveys the meaning that buyers have the option to choose among different tiers of coverage plans, including bronze, silver, gold, and platinum. The use of "but" appropriately introduces the contrasting information that there are no plans offering greater coverage than the platinum tier or less than the bronze.

(E) although buyers can choose among bronze, silver, gold, and platinum plans, there are
The word "although" implies a contrast or contradiction that does not fit well with the given information. The sentence structure is also incorrect.

"The national insurance firm offers four tiers of coverage plans; buyers can .. "

The use of semicolon indicates that we should have a gramatically correct and independent clause, before and after the semicolon.

We see the underlined part is after semicolon. The part after semicolon - in option A - is 2 independent clauses seperated by a comma. That is a comma splice and that is gramatically wrong. So eliminate A

Option B starts the clause with because. That is gramatically wrong. So eliminate B

Option C uses however but the situation doesn't warrant it. Though this option eliminates the comma splice error correctly by introducing a conjunction after comma, the start of the sentence with HOWEVER makes the answer choice pretty weak. If we get a better option , we will switch.

Option D - the portion after comma splice doesn't make sense. So eliminate D

Option E - starts with although and handles the comma well. Thus, the portion after semicolon is an independent and gramatically correct clause . This is of course a better option than C.

Therefore final answer is E.

E. Correct. This answer choice correctly uses the phrase “although buyers can choose…” to maintain an appropriate sense of contrast, conveying the intended meaning of the sentence- that most insurance firms offer four tiers of coverage plans that buyers can choose among, and there is no plan more comprehensive than the platinum one and no plan less comprehensive than the bronze one.
E is the best answer choice.

Could you please help me out here? I do not see what is the contrast here. Sentence is saying that
a. There are 4 options, and
b. There are no options other than these 4.

Aren't both these ideas in the same direction?

(E) although buyers can choose among bronze, silver, gold, and platinum plans, there are

A) Run-on sentence. There are no FANBOYS before "there"
B) "because" doesn't make sense here. The national insurance firm offers 4 tiers because buyers can choose? Incorrect
C) "however" represents a sort of contrast. Doesn't make sense here
D) Not a full sentence
E) Correct answer
