As in will it compliment our application?
Thanks, Piyush for your question. International experience and diversity of perspectives, as well as an understanding of different cultures is something that AdComs look for in deferred MBA candidates. There are multiple ways to demonstrate this - summer school programs are one such way. Hence, it would certainly be beneficial.

Further, in the event the GMAT/ GRE score is slightly on the lower side, a good grade/ performance at the summer school would help compensate for the same.

Which common mistakes do you see applicants do a lot in their applications?
Common Mistake 1: Everyone wants to be a management consultant but not everyone gets placed in consulting; schools look for diversity in deferred MBA candidates.

Common Mistake 2: Too much focus on how shiny the goals appear; rather, deferred MBA applicants should focus on the feasibility of achieving the goals.

Common Mistake 3: More so relevant for deferred MBA candidates, submitting an application without strong evidence of extracurricular activities.

Common Mistake 4: If the applicant is unable to explain clearly the following: (a) why the MBA; and (b) how the MBA would help them achieve their short-term and long-term goals.

Hi - there is only one deadline for the deferred MBA applications (falling through early-end April). There is no concept of R1 or R3.

And, like we mentioned earlier, you can ONLY apply in either of the two scenarios: (1) when you are in the final year of undergraduate studies; or (2) when you are in the final year of your graduate studies (if you went to graduate studies DIRECTLY after undergraduate).

You are not eligible to apply if you have any kind of full-time work experience post your undergraduate studies.

Hi Piyush, as mentioned previously, deadlines fall around early through end of April for the top programs. Candidates usually start preparing 9-12 months in advance through giving the GMAT and getting in touch with consultants.

Hi - this chat session is directed towards deferred MBA applicants. For regular full-time MBA, R1 and early rounds are preferred options.

Thanks, Piyush. We recommend that applicants start preparing for and planning their applications a year in advance. For deferred MBA programs, it is suggested that applicants apply to as many schools as feasible.

Another question from the sign up form: How detailed should I go for the activities section of the application?
Activities (including extracurriculars and co-curriculars) should be discussed in significant detail. The reason for this is that AdComs do not have full-time work experience to demonstrate their skills and traits in the case of deferred MBA applications. The applicants should therefore highlight activities that show different skills (leadership, social impact, organizational skills being some of them).

Sooner the better! Signing up early may also help with getting some invaluable guidance around GMAT preparation and you will be able to spend some quality time thrashing out possibilities and options with the consultants.
