Hey,

My GMAT score is 710 (Q49,V37) but my AWA score is a 4. Does the AWA score hurt my chances in getting admission in international universities?

I'm mainly considering universities in Australia and Canada including, but not limited to, UniMelb, McGill, York, Rotman etc.

Hey DorkyBurger,

To answer your question,
710+ is a decent score when combined with an overall robust profile. The top schools mostly accept the analytical writing assessment score of 4. The schools you have mentioned have an average GMAT score ranging from 650-720 in their class. However, as already mentioned, for top business schools, you will need a strong profile to enhance your chances. We would like you to share a detailed profile in order to evaluate your chances better. Thus, feel free to hop on a call with us to get a better and more detailed understanding of your profile and give you a fair and thorough evaluation.

Hence, feel free to schedule a call with us at your convenience.

Have Low GMAT or GPA- Let's discuss how to get into Top business schools

Cheers!

Major changes in the GMAT exam.

For decades, the GMAT Exam format has been an essential part of the MBA application process. It evaluates a student's ability to think critically, write analytically, and solve problems—all abilities that are crucial in the business world. A high GMAT score can considerably boost a student's chances of admission to their desired program, as many top business schools utilize it to evaluate applications.

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) underwent some substantial adjustments in March 2023 by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). These changes are expected to make the exam shorter and more focused, as well as improve the overall test-taking experience for students.

The GMAT exam pattern 2023 will be updated in a number of ways to address these issues, the most significant of which is a nearly one-hour reduction in the total test time. The GMAT Focus Edition test, which will replace the existing 3 hours and 23-minute test, will last 2 hours and 45 minutes. By removing some of the experimental questions that were previously used to evaluate new questions and formats, the time required will be reduced. The GMAT Focus Edition will instead have fewer questions but will be more concentrated on evaluating the fundamental competencies required for business school.

The GMAT focus edition will add a new portion known as the GMAT integrated reasoning session that will take the place of the present integrated reasoning section and test a student's capacity to apply critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to real-world circumstances.

In general, the changes to the GMAT Focus Edition are advantageous for students, business schools, and employers. It will help business schools and organizations find the most qualified individuals for their programs and roles while providing students with a more accurate and pertinent assessment of their skills.

Read more about the changes in the exam here!

Use the GMAT exam pattern to your advantage to raise your score. Book a call with MBAandBeyond today and discover the secrets to acing the GMAT exam pattern. Our expert team of MBA consultants will help you achieve your dreams of getting into the top MBA programs.
Feel free to schedule a call with us at your convenience.

Cheers!

Opting for a one-year MBA program is a suitable decision if your goal is to climb the ladder to a leadership position, build upon your previous undergraduate business studies, and make the most of the diverse elective courses that these programs offer. Nonetheless, it is crucial to note that a one-year accelerated MBA program is more appropriate for candidates with considerable work experience. Pursuing a one-year MBA would complement their immediate and long-term career objectives.

Choosing the best one-year MBA program in the US depends on individual needs, career goals, and preferences. However, here are some top one-year MBA programs in the US:

1. Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University - The one-year MBA program at Kellogg is designed for students with a strong business background. It offers an intensive curriculum with a focus on leadership and innovation.

2. Johnson Graduate School of Management, Cornell University - Cornell's one-year MBA program is ideal for students who have completed prior coursework in business and want to enhance their skills in a specific area, such as consulting, entrepreneurship, or investment banking.

3. Tuck School of Business, Dartmouth College - The Tuck School's one-year MBA program offers a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum that focuses on leadership, innovation, and strategy. The program is designed for students who have prior experience in business and want to accelerate their career growth.

4. Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley - The one-year MBA program at Haas is designed for students who want to deepen their knowledge and skills in a specific area of business, such as entrepreneurship, sustainability, or finance.

5. SC Johnson Graduate School of Management, Cornell University - The one-year MBA program at SC Johnson is designed for students who have completed prior coursework in business and want to develop their leadership and management skills in a specific industry or functional area.

Each of these MBA programs has its unique features, strengths, and focuses, so it's important to research and compare them based on your specific needs and goals.

Admissions Strategies for MBA Applicants: Tips and Insights from an Admission Consultant

The MBA admissions process can be daunting, but with the right strategies and guidance, you can set yourself up for success. As an admission consultant with years of experience helping students navigate the admissions process, I've learned a lot about what works and what doesn't. In this article, I'll share some of my top admissions strategies for MBA applicants, including tips for crafting a strong application, approaching interviews, and more.

Tip 1: Understand the Admissions Process
The first step to success in the MBA admissions process is understanding how it works. You'll need to familiarize yourself with the different components of the application, such as essays, recommendations, and transcripts. You should also research the schools you're interested in to learn about their specific requirements and admissions processes.

Tip 2: Craft a Compelling Story
One of the most important parts of your application is your personal story. Admissions committees are looking for candidates with unique experiences, perspectives, and goals. To stand out, you'll need to craft a compelling narrative that showcases your strengths and highlights your potential as a future business leader.

Tip 3: Focus on Fit
Admissions committees are not just looking for students with impressive credentials; they're also looking for students who are a good fit for their program. To demonstrate fit, you'll need to research each school carefully and tailor your application to showcase how you align with their values, mission, and culture.

Tip 4: Prepare for Interviews
Once you've submitted your application, you may be invited to interview with the admissions committee. This is an opportunity to showcase your personality, interests, and goals in person. To prepare for the interview, you should research the school, practice your responses to common questions, and prepare questions to ask the interviewer.

Tip 5: Seek Professional Guidance
Navigating the MBA admissions process can be overwhelming, and it's easy to feel lost or unsure of how to proceed. That's why many applicants turn to admission consultants for guidance. A good consultant can help you identify your strengths, weaknesses, and goals and provide personalized advice to help you craft a strong application and stand out in the admissions process.

The MBA admissions process is challenging, but with the right strategies and guidance, you can succeed. By understanding the admissions process, crafting a compelling story, focusing on fit, preparing for interviews, and seeking professional guidance, you can position yourself for success and achieve your goals of attending a top MBA program. As an admission consultant, we've helped many students navigate this process, and we’re confident that with these strategies, you can achieve success too. We would be delighted to arrange a meeting for you with our team of profile experts to have an in-depth discussion about your profile and explore additional opportunities to enhance your chances of getting admitted to top B-schools. Please feel free to schedule a free profile evaluation call with our profile experts at your convenience.

Good Luck!

Hey Piyush, so business schools want passionate people who want to create an impact in the world. So any role where you can show a growth in scope of your impact over time is always a good idea. They want to know that you can take the decisions for the 100s and the 1000s. So I would see transitions from technical roles to a broader strategic role as a good framework to go by.

Hey MBA and Beyond,

I haven’t appeared for GMAT exam yet and I am planning to appear in the next 2-3 months, I haven’t started preparing for my application yet too. Would you recommend me applying for the J-term (early round) at Columbia Business School, or should I wait for round 1 and go with better preparation?

Hi! Thank you for sharing your profile. From the info you’ve shared let me say that the GMAT, undergrad GPA form the base of your application. I am sure you will be able to check those off in the next couple of months. Seems like you have good extracurriculars going for you too. One thing about top business schools in Europe is that international exposure or international motivation post-MBA seems like a very key factor in someone getting accepted. So you might want to demonstrate that. Another key factor to get accepted is showing strong culture fit with the school that you want to go to. This usually comes by spending a great deal of time introspecting and drawing out stories about your achievements, setbacks, learnings, career highs/lows, etc. I would say speak to alumni from the schools you are targeting as they will give you key insights on how to demonstrate culture fit. Ofcourse a more detailed analysis of your profile can be done by a good consultant/trusted friend.
