Getting right to it ! Thanks !

My personal favorites: George Orwell's books 1984 and Animal Farm. The number of pages is not very intimidating!

Great books for new readers !

Hi everyone,
this is my first post, however i am not new to this forum.
I am non native and as well as most of you have some problems with verbal, especially with RC.
I've recently finished one of world-famous fiction books - Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and found that since this book is written in british english, it brings some discrepancies between rules used in gmat and those used in british english. I've already prepared for SC, and i am aware that some rules such as plurality of group noun are restricted on gmat but are common in brit english. Well, I was surprised to see 'consider x AS y' a lot of times, while reading this romance. So, i started to concern how actually it can affect my literacy. :( The usage is supposed to be right, but I am just afraid to take the wrong way. Whether it is really serious or I exaggerate? Whether it is better to stay close to american literature?
Thanks for your advices.

No one can help... it's ok :)
By the way, one more advice for reading. For those who find it difficult to read heavyweights, try '100 Selected stories (O.Henry)'. They are short but bring wisdoms and allow to make a conclusion while not be confused with plenty of characters and intricate plot. They also bring some history insights. In general great addition to your main reading. Enjoy :)

Hi BB

Can u recommend some books on US history, US politics, US law,European history and other si-fi books?
I have observed that most of the RC passage has based on the said subjects.

Would you suggest that I start reading these books even when my test is just 3 months away?

thanks for the list. The idea is great & inspiring. I would also like to add the biography section in this. My experiments with Truth by M.K Gandhi is another great read which is inspiring & is having a great language.

May i suggest books by Dan Brown : Angels and Demons, Da Vinci Code , and The Digital Fortress for the expanding list. They are all masterpieces and you'll want to read it on and on till you reach the very and. And certainly language is good as well.

I would also like to suggest The great pepsi challenge for a nice and interesting read. It's a wall street journal book. Although it becomes a bit boring from time to time, it tells about the roots of pepsi and language is great for GMAT point of view. So all those interested to know about pepsi more, it'll be a good read.

I had started reading articles from nytimes, economist but to no gain..like bb,my mind also wandered around within 3-4 minutes of intense read..!i downloaded a pdf of guns germs and steel, read a page on 'how china became chinese' and then realised that i possess immense interest in reading books !!m literally awestruck at current point of time and highly excited bcz now i realise that since have time for gmat (3 months),i should be armed to attack not only gmat RC,but also SC and CR (since i tend to take a lot of time to comprehend moderately difficult sentence structures..!)will keep updating whether this technique really help me in my comprehension skills..!(though i know its gona 200 percent help me) :)

I followed your advice and started my 1st novel- The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald with full zeal. I know my reading habit is very poor, so i need to do something to improve it, and reading high level english novels can be one solution to it. But...but...but... I was able to complete only 2 pages of gatsby in 1 hour. The language is too difficult for me to interpret and i have to search for many phrases on google. now what should i do.. Should i countinue with this novel or move on to someone else..hw should i improve my RC part..

There is no point reading a book you don't understand. You will get discouraged and lose interest. Start with some popular bestsellers - books you might find interesting. Move on to Classics later.
