Sounds good. Keep it short and sweet. I've created a generic example for you below to give you an idea. Also if he school doesn't have an optional essay there should be a text box somewhere in the electronic application where you can adjoin info such as this :)

Concerning the period from June 2006 - July 2008: After completing my degree at XYZ University I was offered a position as an Analyst at Toshiba Inc. beginning in the Fall of 2006. Unfortunately a family matter arose and I ultimately spent the next 24 months attending to my mother/the family business etc. Following this two year period - I picked up my career where I had left off, accepting a position as a General Manager at Sony Inc.

It depends a lot on what you did during that break.

Hi,

I have a break of 2 yrs from the graduation completion to the start of my career. From then on I have 7+ years of experience without any break. I am planning to apply in R2 for 2015-MBA.

How is such a break looked upon by the ADCOM?

Also what is the difference between a break such as this and a career break (eg: taking a 3 months break when shifting from one job to other)? Are they both looked in a same way by adcom ? Or are they considered differently?

Please suggest.

regards

They would view a 2-year break negatively if you we just sitting around at home. If you were dealing with a personal/family/health emergency, were giving back to your community in a substantial, or even if you were traveling around the world, they might view it positively. Feel free to email me at paulsbodine@gmail.com if you'd like more specific feedback.

Hi Leah/Paul,

On the same lines of this topic, Lets say that someone didn't get any campus placement offers at the time of his graduation or immediately after his graduation. Reason could be a recession, I know some of my juniors who have faced such situation (especially who graduated in years 2005 and 2006). Because of recession both on campus and off campus job offers were extremely less. They used to do some part time jobs (eg: giving tuitions) while learning some new technologies.

If this were the reason for the break between graduation and career start, can the same be provided in the application. How would adcom react to reasons/situations such as this :?:

amlatifs,
The schools would not 'blame' you for the lack of placement offers, but they would very much care what you did in response. That is, did you 'bounce back' proactively and create opportunities for yourself, or not.
