The WEEK of destiny: For all of us that went “under review” in the week of Oct. 26-30 this is week number five. Most of us will either make it (half-way there by receiving an interview invitation) or get dinged. Wish all of you the best of luck!

Good luck to all!

Put me down for an RD application.
I've read from a few posts that Columbia RD is the equivalent of a typically round 3 at another school? Round 3 to me typically implies less than 10% of positions available. Does anyone know if this is actually true?
I would have thought RD is more like a round 2?

Adcom told me at presentation that it's basically a round 2.

Sure there's more than 10% of positions but don't have numbers.

Can recommenders resubmit their letter of recs? My recommender made some updates, and wants to resubmit.

Anyone know the process? Thx

This is probably a dumb question, but does anyone have any reliable information on when the move to the Manhattanville campus is going to happen? I know in 2006 (according to this article: https://curbed.com/archives/2006/11/13/b ... _north.php) it was supposed to happen in the next "5-7" years...but I haven't been able to track down any other information about it.

Anyone know anything more?

that's not totally bad... you're still in with a chance...at least it's not a ding!

If you get accepted in RD are you still bound to your ED obligation?

Hi people, one question. My application is almost ready but my recs aren't there yet. Should I submit anyway? Will I be put on a que based on my submission date regardless to my recs?

thanks!

The que is based on when all documents are received ... what CBS calls "under review".

I also got my decision yesterday. ED deferred to RD. I was so depressed I ended up taking the day off from work.

To be honest, I don't know where to go from here. Do many waitlisted candidates get accepted? Also, I only applied to CBS for R1. For R2, I'm thinking about applying to Yale and U Chicago but to be honest, not sure if I should wait and reapply to Columbia next year. Does anyone have any advice for those waitlisted?

Don't be down, there are tons of people that have been dinged already from Columbia and elsewhere. The fact of the matter is that they saw something they liked in you, and that in and of itself is a testament to you. Take pride in knowing that a Top 10 business school thinks highly enough of you to dedicate a lot of their time to take another look. Trust me, it hurts the first few days but I came away from my UChicago ding more motivated than ever.

In terms of your R2 plans, the first question I would ask is whether you would actually want to attend those two programs. If not, then I wouldn't waste your time unless you felt like the extra essay writing could be useful practice. If that was the case, I'd find a school that offers feedback for candidates and in the event that you got dinged (which could happen if you don't put your heart and soul into it) they could lay out potential weaknesses in your app that you could then address when applying next year to Columbia.

I will say this, you're a strong candidate and it would be a shame if you simply put all of your eggs into the Columbia basket. There are terrific schools all over this country and I think you'd make a lasting impact at many of them, and many of them would make a lasting impact on you.

Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and take a few days to regroup (go enjoy some hobbies or something to get your mind off of it). If after these two or three days you feel you want to give R2 a go get back on this board, ask some questions to find out which schools you'd want to apply to and pour your heart and soul into those apps over the next month.

Good luck to you.

Yeah could not agree more. I'm RD so have yet to go through the emotional turmoil! CBS is a great school but not the ONLY great school. go drink a few beers then find a couple of great schools for R2 (one at CBS level and one a little lower, but that you would still love to attend). Then take the next 4 weeks or so and nail the applications, then come back and give me some sympathy because I'll be panicking by then!

Thank you for these suggestions. Do you think I should still go hard on the waitlist process (writing a strong waitlist letter, etc..) to Columbia?
