I think my fate here is near-sealed just as the Yale app. Submitted Oct 2 - radio silence until now. Will post if a miracle occurs.

thanks guys, I think I'm just lucky. While my gf has a better profile than mine, she hasn't received her CBS interview invite so far. (I assume she should be able to get one) so, hang on!

yes i was interviewed before being put on the waitlist. im at such a loss as to what to do. i want to major in social enterprise, so the only other schools really strong in that are berkeley and yale and stanford. stanfords a reach so i may just only apply to yale and go from there.

We is in the same boat :( I think yes, write to adcomms and express your desire to be considered for RD. Surely the ED conditions will not apply. And then I suggest to write it off and go for other schools that you are keen for and if you (I) get in, it's lucky and an extra choice.

I am currently having the same problem - I applied to all the schools I actually want to attend in first round. So what do I do if I don't get in? Do I re-evaluate going to business school?

Oh yeah and total congrats entrepreneur2015!!!

Don't get too worried just yet. Keep in mind that the interview went complete right around Thanksgiving so there is a lag of a few days. My interview went complete on the same day, and I haven't heard anything either. Keeping my fingers crossed...

Hearty Congrats to entrepreneur2015.

Mine went Under Review on 10/26...Seems to have disappeared into a black hole...I seriously wonder if the Marquis de Sade is on the Columbia Admissions Committee..maybe that could explain the mental torture..

I think you should only write a letter if the adcom says you should send in material. Some schools specifically say do not send anything. This will just prove to them that you don't follow directions.

I also got my decision yesterday. ED deferred to RD. I was so depressed I ended up taking the day off from work.

To be honest, I don't know where to go from here. Do many waitlisted candidates get accepted? Also, I only applied to CBS for R1. For R2, I'm thinking about applying to Yale and U Chicago but to be honest, not sure if I should wait and reapply to Columbia next year. Does anyone have any advice for those waitlisted?

Can anyone confirm that being "deferred to RD" is different from being "waitlisted"? Or are they effectively the same at this point in the process? I'm under the impression that being deferred means your application goes through the review process again while being waitlisted means you are accepted if enough admits decline their offers.

Thanks.

Just means they want to see what type of applicants they are getting in RD..After reading many I'm sure they'll take ED people off during the RD round. Just means deferred.

I agree with this point generally, however Columbia did specifically note that ED applicants who wish to be considered for RD still should write in to a member of the adcomms (they specified who) and express this. It was in the admissions decision.

I was speaking in general terms as I didn't apply to Columbia. If the letter says so then by all means what's to stop you
