Thanks i will put a one liner and then refer to optional essay. I was never on academic probation as my gpa was still above three but did get one failing grade ~
Why do you put a one liner in the education section and actually do the explanation in the optional essay?
Why not just explain it in the education section?
Speaking to some alumni who worked on Adcom, it's pretty clear that there isn't a fixed process for reading an application, and that each reviewer is free to read different parts of the application in whatever order they feel like. This means that someone could start by reading your transcript, spot the failing grade and then go looking for an explanation. They might look at the education section, or they might turn straight to the optional essay (which is where you're told to explain anything that might need an explanation).
There's no 'right place', but it makes sense to pick one place and then put in some signposts for the person who has to read your application.
