Hi all

Been a lurker here for a while.

I have just decided I would like to apply to booth this year for sept 2011 entry ft. Is applying in the 3rd round crazy?

I am international (zimbabwean), 2 years w/e in top tier consulting (mbb), high distinctions for undergrad and a masters, decent extra currics...

Any chance?

well it also says it can take between 2.5 to 3 years at average of 2 classes a quarter for 20 total classes @ 5k per class. Now do people travel every saturday to chicago for what seems like 11 weeks per quarter = 44 weeks!? That seems a lot of travelling...

If you're only going to weekend classes then the most you can take is two classes per quarter (there are only 2 classes on a Saturday and no classes on a Sunday). That means at least 2.5 years if you attend class for 44 weeks a year. You do have 5 years to complete a PT mba so you don't have to take classes each quarter but then the more time you take the more the course costs (assuming module prices keep increasing).

Round 3 is very difficult for everyone, but it's nearly impossible for international applicants because of administrative visa issues. You'd likely be a very competitive candidate in Rounds 1 and 2 next year if Round 3 doesn't work out for you this year.

Good luck!

hey guys count me in for R2 even though I'm probably submitting it at 4:30 PM CT on wednesday.

I do have a quick question, There is a section that says

"If you have received a failing grade, been placed on academic probation, been part of an academic hearing or been dismissed from any school, please explain. Discuss the circumstances if you attended more than one undergraduate college or began a graduate program that you did not complete. If appropriate, include an explanation of any extraordinary circumstances influencing your academic record. :"

as well as the optional letter.

I did receive one failing grade and i do have some health issues that affected my academics, do i put that in the optional essay or in th education section?

Thanks for any help

I would

IMO, this option gives applicants a chance to explain failing grades. If you don't put anything down, they'll see the failing grade and assume the worst.

then again, dunno if transcripts actually show you being placed on academic probation.

my 2 cents

I think I would put it in the optional essay with perhaps a short note in the education section telling the reader where to look for the explanation. One thing the Adcom people kept saying at all the schools I visited was that the 'optional essay' doesn't have to be (and maybe shouldn't be) an essay. It's a space to explain whatever you need to explain.

Good luck with your application!

I have a transcript for a degree in an non English speaking country. What to do with the transcript? Should I just scan it without translating it? Should I create a self-reported excel file transcript as Wharton requires?

I cannot find any info on Booth's website.

Thanks for your help.

I may be kind of a nerd, but I actually enjoyed putting the power point together and think it really does say more about me than any single essay could. Wish more schools would do this. Just submitted R2, good luck everyone!

Thanks for your help.

I found this in Booth's FAQs:

Q: My university is outside of the United States and uses a different grading scale. What should I do?
A: Our admissions committee will review your grades within the context that they were awarded. We are familiar with different grading systems around the world. Please do not attempt to convert your grades to the GPA system. We will accept your transcripts in the format that your university issues them. You can send your transcripts as they are via scanned jpg or pdf (uploaded to your application). If these are not in English, please be sure that you provide an English translation.

I would take that to mean that you should upload the original transcript as well as a translation.

Thanks i will put a one liner and then refer to optional essay. I was never on academic probation as my gpa was still above three but did get one failing grade ~

also if you just requested your gmat scores send today there's probably an issue there.
