Dear INSEAD Aspirants,

The criteria INSEAD applies to its applicants are a perpetual subject of discussion and interest. INSEAD is unique in that it explicitly highlights global orientation as a key criterion for applicants. This has generated significant curiosity and questions about what makes a strong candidate for this prestigious Business school.

I have regularly engaged with INSEAD aspirants on this platform, and I provide candid feedback when profiles don't align with INSEAD's preferences. While I will continue to be honest in my response, I encourage applicants from the impact and sustainability sectors to step forward should they want to discuss their INSEAD prospects with me.

INSEAD has emphasized the importance of sustainability in its curriculum this year. Recalling my time at INSEAD, I can attest that as recently as five years ago, I do not specifically recall sustainability being at the forefront of even my most favorite courses taught at INSEAD.

INSEAD has possibly recognized this sentiment and has strongly advocated for taking action. This year, INSEAD has incorporated sustainability into all core courses of its MBA curriculum and aims to cultivate leaders who can champion solutions to significant global challenges while also fostering financial performance and advancement.

Recently, some very inspiring aspirants from the Indian impact and sustainability sector reached out to me for a profile evaluation. I strongly believe that their unique perspectives, despite limited international exposure, will be highly valued at INSEAD. Whether you have an atypical background or not, I would be delighted to have a conversation and offer assistance in any way I can.

Hi MBAspirant05,

usually, applications open up about 2 months before the Round 1 deadline. So, given that the Round 1 deadline for the Jan 2025 intake is March 12th, most likely, the application will open around early January 2024.

Warm regards
Alex

Is anyone else planning to apply for Jan 25 INSEAD intake while applying to R2 (or equivalent) windows for other programs that start in Fall? I’m concerned about potential possibility of being accepted somewhere else and then getting into INSEAD 2 months later, but it seems unwise to push other apps to R3 just so timelines match…

How do people typically manage this scenario?

Hello FyodorPiketty,

Typically, this is a good problem to be solving.

In such scenarios, applicants often pay the deposit for once school and mentally prepare themselves to forgo it, if needed.

You may even ask one of the schools to provide you an extension to pay the deposit; however, whether the extension will be given and how long it will be provided for is completely dependent on the school.

All the best!

FyodorPiketty - broadly, there are two time windows you could try to optimize in such a scenario:

A) requesting an early decision from your target school by explaining the situation to AdCom. While this may or may not be honored, it's worth a shot, depending on your other offers
B) requesting other school(s) for an extension on the deposit payment deadline, or the deposit to be paid in tranches. Again, this may or may not be granted. Worst case, you'd have to forego the deposit, but that's the trade-off for not losing an offer in hand

Hope this helps.

Hello everyone,

pinkman27: Broadly, it would depend on your profile and post MBA goals. For example, if you want to transition to PE/ IB at INSEAD, the Jan intake could be better as it gives you the opportunity to do an internship. However, there aren't major disadvantages with either intake.

I'm linking below two articles, covering in-depth the key commonalities and differences between the two intakes at INSEAD and HEC:

INSEAD MBA: Jan vs Aug intake
HEC Paris MBA: Sep vs Jan intake

Hope it helps.
