Saw an email from "Berkely MBA Program" in my Inbox, and for a split second my heart was racing with anticipation!

Turns out its just "MBA eNews from Haas"!

Why would they send out such an email at this time and torture me?? :)
I just saw the same email and had the same response :(

Just wondering, did anyone not use up the full 1000 words for their goals essay? I'm having trouble fitting it all in what with all the other schools making me do it in 500 words max. I've just become accustomed to writing it succinctly.... Do you all think it might hurt me to have it short?

I was able to maintain a strong tight-knit story with 900 words in my goals essay. Any longer and I felt it would've been more loose. I'm fine with my decision. But then again, I haven't been invited to interview yet!

New here - count me in for Round 1. F/33/760, nonprofit background. Submitted 10/13, got the under review email on 10/21. Still hopeful and trying not to obsess too much! That last part isn't going so well though...

Cyber - mine was just over 750. My goals at Stanford are the same as Berkeley (Stanford = 500 word limit). For Berkeley, I just added specific language that pertained to the berkeley program and why it was the best for me (specifically talking about the management of technology certificate program.). Hope that helps.

My goals essay was just under 1000 words - Kellogg had a 600 word essay, so I just bulked that one up. I included more info on what programs I wanted to be involved in at Haas to complement my classes + career goals, and also tried to draw a super-clear line between my past/current work experience, an MBA, and my future goals.

That being said, still no word on anything interview related, so take my advice with a grain of salt... Good luck!

I think going too far below the limit kind of screams "cut and paste from another app". The adcom is well aware of other schools' app requirements, and I don't think it's a coincidence that their word limit is higher than most. I read somewhere that, along the lines of the 10% overage "rule", you also don't want to go more than 10% under the limit.

Given the very small class, Haas has the luxury of being very selective, and seems to strongly favor people who best demonstrate fit. They give you a lot of room to do that, so I'd take advantage.

That's for the advice on the world limits. Honestly even writing from scratch I'm hitting about 700 words, complete with internship examples, companies, functions, reasons for MBA blargh blargh.. oh well.. it is what it is.

Hi Folks - I had created a seperate forum for EWMBA applicants, but some how that got dissolved and merged with this one (without any notification) Oh well, guess I'll go ahead and ask if there are any EWMBA applicants amidst us applying for 2011. My application status shows "Reviewable"; Must it change to "Under Review" as a next step?
thanks.

Hi! i am trying to apply by R2 deadline! and have been following EWMBA posts here...Good luck to you
