I haven't interviewed with CBS but with other schools my strategy has always been to highlight the 3 things that I'm looking for from an MBA from that school and how perhaps only 2 other schools offer the same and mention them. But then mention how only CBS does those things particularly well and hence is my #1 choice.

What did you hear then? When did you submit? When did it go under review?

Just got the ding letter:

"We are sorry to disappoint you, but the number of qualified applicants who applied for admission makes this situation inevitable."

Not exactly sure what "inevitability" has to do with it. Anyway, I was a RD applicant as follows:

Submitted: 12/25/10
Under Review: 12/30/10
Rejected: 2/2/11

Good luck to the rest of you in the race!

This one didn't seem that hard. I told my interviewer which schools I had applied to (including one I was in at already) and then told him why I prefer Columbia to those schools. I guess if you legitimately prefer another school over Columbia it might be harder, but there are lots of things CBS has going for it.

Sorry to hear about the ding.

I agree with you, they should probably consider re-wording that sentence. I think they were trying to say that it is inevitable that great applicants will be dinged every year because they get so many high quality applications.

But the way they are wording it now makes it seem like it's inevitable that you would be dinged/disappointed because they get so many applications.

What kind of picture (if any) did you guys attach? And is it simply to "put a face to the name", or for other reasons?

A mug shot taken for my company website. No idea what they use it for, maybe to screen if you are attractive enough to star in one of the online recruiting videos....

I used an informal picture, just me in a button-down at a restaurant on a bay. Thought it better represented me than a formal one, but maybe that was dumb, haha.

Re: Calling All CBS 2011 Applicants!! [#permalink]
I applied 1/15 to Columbia and am wondering if I should look lower. I'm a non-traditional applicant: AB in Political Theory from #20 liberal arts college (GPA: 3.6), law degree from #20 law school (with a low GPA: 2.9). Have only one semester of ugrad quant work: Calc I (A). 730 on the GMAT.
Want to lead a nonprofit (currently working in the nonprofit/gov't world).
Is it likely that my Law School GPA is going to sink me at top schools? Given the low grad school gpa, which is obviously more recent than my college grades, should I forget about schools in the top 10? I've noticed that invites have gone out for R2 interviews and I haven't heard anything which contributes to my wondering if I should shoot some R3 apps out.

Thanks and congrats to the people who've heard positive news.

I'd be more curious to know if just having a JD is detrimental. There were only two in the class of 2011. Now, that could obviously be because of self-selection I have no idea. Others probably know if Columbia is friendly/unfriendly to JD applicants.

Re: Calling All CBS 2011 Applicants!! [#permalink]
So guys, I have a dilemma. I have virtually decided to go to Columbia and I even mailed them the deposit. But today I received my admit letter from NYU and they offered me $25K in scholarships for year 1. Now, factor in the fact that NYU's tuition is already cheaper by $10K over the two years, that's $35K in savings, not a small amount.

So, should i take the money and run over to NYU or should I stick with Columbia (even though I know they don't give much money at all) because of the slightly stronger brand name? Any tips from any of you? (I know you may be biased since you're on the CBS thread, but thought I should ask anyway!) I asked on the NYU thread as well....just curious. Thanks guys!

And I know, I am very lucky. (not trying to brag here)
