September 2011 entry
Deadlines:
Early Decision application deadline: October 6, 2010
Merit fellowship consideration deadline: January 5, 2011
Regular Decision application deadline: April 13, 2011

https://www4.gsb.columbia.edu/mba/learnmore/faqs#31

"After submitting my application, when will I receive a decision?

In a given application season, the Admissions Office will begin reviewing January and September Early Decision applications once all required materials have been received, and will begin reviewing September Regular Decision applications in December, again, once all required materials have been received. We work to release decisions in a timely manner and decisions can be rendered at any time. Please note that an invitation to interview may extend the review process beyond our 8-12 week goal. "

So for EA, what does it translate to? Decision before December?

I don't think anyone, except the AdComs, knows exactly what the timeline is. As far as we know from this forum, all of the applicants from the States are still waiting for some sort of a change in application status. There are a couple of applicants in Europe who got interviewed. I guess the AdCom just wanted to keep the answer to this question as broad as possible, so there are stairs to step down just in case if anything happens.

I attended the information session on Monday and this question came up. Adcom director mentioned 90% of applications are rendered decision with 8 - 12 weeks. Sometimes the person assigned to review the application may be traveling on tours/events for the school. I will post other takeaways from the session later.

quick question to piggy back on what you said: 8-12 weeks should give the applicant a final decision? Or 8-12 weeks to see if the applicant makes it to the interview?

to answer the "piggyback" question - i believe their timeline is in reference to the first decision, as in "Interview, Reject, or Waitlist". if you get an interview, though, i'm not sure they've ever laid out a timeline from interview to final decision.

Hmm, not what we were told: 8 - 12 weeks for decision. Interview between 4 - 8 weeks.

for whatever reason, the adcoms have been purposely vague about it. maybe its so they don't feel rushed to meet a certain deadline, i'm not sure.

w103psp - maybe the 4-8 weeks post-interview is within the 8-12 week total window?

as in [week 0---------interview invite + (4-8 weeks) ------week 12 final decision] ?

Yes, within 4 - 8 weeks of applying you MAY get called for interview (and that this is a good sign). And that 4 weeks after that one can expect a decision. Supposedly they are trying to interview a higher percentage of students they admit.

I meant the former, but perhaps lawgonebusiness is right in that CBS interviews 100% of the applicants they admit. So being called for an interview is a good sign.

mba2013, my information is from the Q&A at the end of the Monday information session I attended.

Had my interview today, very casual. Questions: walk through the resume, why Columbia, ethical question, leadership examples.

Congrats, lawgonebusiness :P

Now it's another waiting game but still, to a person like me who hasn't even submitted app yet, you are a subject of envy.
