Interesting - so did they call to tell you that you were accepted into the EMBA program? Do you mind my asking how old you are?

i could have sworn i posted this but maybe i composed it in my mind... so what do you guys think - i submitted my app on 1/7 and 1 recommender didn't turn in till 1/13. so i have app submitted 1/7 on my page but app complete 1/15.

are all the invites/dings so far that say 1/7 talking about submission date or complete date... i'm hoping my recommender didn't screw over my consideration for merit based scholarships

Hey there. I submitted 1/6, but my last recommender didn't submit until 1/9. Accordingly, I've been seeing people who submitted 1/7 getting responses on this board, while I'm still waiting. So I would deduce that yeah, the delay in submitting the recommendation puts your application further back in the queue, which probably has a slight impact if you buy into the idea that chances go down as rolling applications continue.

I knew that my recommender would be late for the merit scholarship deadline, so I called the office on 1/7 and they said that as long it's submitted within reason timeframe, I'd still be considered for merit. I said, "oh, like a day or two?" and they said that was fine. So I'm not sure whether yours would be beyond the deadline for merit consideration. Seeing as it's probably not directly tied to the admit/deny decision, if I were you, I might hold off until you get an interview decision (God-willing) and then bring it up to the admissions office.

Just my two cents. Good luck!

According to the essaysnark blog, this is a fairly common semi-bait-and-switch tactic that CBS pulls on New York based candidates with decent stats and who are kind of on the older side:
https://essaysnark.com/2012/01/if-youre-in-nyc-and-you-applied-to-columbia-read-this/

According to the blog, you can just say no to the EMBA and still have a high probability of getting accepted to the full time program.

Thanks for the interesting article. However, I am from Latin America. So there is something weird. Should I reject the EMBA offer?

Strange, were they referring to their EMBA-Americas or EMBA-Global programs?

From a quick search, it seems the EMBA-Americas is a fairly new program (2013) and the article I referenced was written in 2012. However, it seems like the same tactic--they're trying to build up this other program by trying to get some full-time MBA applicants to switch. I guess it boils down to how much you want the full-time experience versus just getting a Columbia-branded MBA.

Thank you very much. I really appreciate all your help. It seems that I will reject the offer and I will try to explain them that I really want to do the full time MBA.

I think that you should thank them for suggesting the EMBA program, but state that you are committed to the MBA program and did your research and that's why you chose it. Like in the article...If your heart is set on the 2-year MBA you should go for it. It's odd that they would accept you for a program you didn't apply to - and it's not right.

Waitlisted. Guessing my chances aren't too great considering all the dings without interview for outstanding candidates.
