Curious to hear how folks tackled some interesting elements of the columbia app:

1. Personal Photo - did you use your typical "suit and tie" photo from work, or did you get a bit more creative?

2. Marital status - I have a pretty serious girlfriend, and I see that they allow you to input "significant other." Did you include details on your boyfriend/girlfriend? Or do you think this is reserved for "married without the title" couples?

1. I used a photo of me in my dress uniform (Army Officer) at a social event but I used one without a drink in my hand which as it turns out is harder to find than it seems when you only wear that uniform for social engagements. I debated about wearing a suit and tie because I am transitioning to the business world but then I crashed my bicycle and scraped up my face soooooo so that made it a bit of a moot point.

2. I listed my girlfriend as a significant other. She is an important part of my life and we have been together for 3 years but we aren't married so I wanted to include her as part of my discussion somehow but I don't really think it matters that much. Don't worry I do actually plan to propose :)

I hope she doesn't read the post or else the surprise's gonna be ruined for her! I also hope she doesn't (secretly) check your email otherwise she will see the email notifications of replies (most likely in the "junk" folder) and see that you have been planning to propose!

I hope she says yes, buddy.... LOL

Cheers,

Ken

haha, she is aware that its coming we have been together long enough to have serious conversations about such things, and even I don't know the exact details yet so I can't let too much out of the bag :)

It seems like invites to interviews are all over the place. Some people on the forum have been invited in exactly two weeks and others are waiting over four weeks. A buddy of mine applied 3 days before me and got invited in exactly 2 weeks. I am now close to the three week mark (Applied Aug 22) and still no word. I initially thought it was a first come first serve process but now I'm wondering if there is more to it!

I think our applications are read on a first come, first serve basis once they are submitted. Although, when one gets an interview invitation depends on how many adcom staff have read your application and where you are in their process. Check out the recent interview with Amanda Carlson who heads the adcom from clearadmit.

2. I believe the only purpose of providing a name there is that CBS would send him/her a letter to introduce "significant other" resources in CBS along with your admission letter. If you two are really committed, you should list him/her there. Can't talk about guys but girls would be happy if they get that letter.

Well, just got my official "ding".

Timeline as follows:
Application Submit: 8/16
Ding: 9/11

Stats:
GMAT: 730 (49Q 40V)
uGPA: well below 3.0 in Ivy League engineering program
gradGPA: 3.33
Age: 27/28 at matriculation
WE: 6.5 years in engineering
EC's: fairly good

I think some of my LT's in my essays were a little too "far fetched" for the adcom to understand however I was told by many people (including CBS alumni) that the LT didn't matter that much given I was looking to go into consulting. I'll have to re-evaluate that notion as I move onto my other schools.

A little depressed about the result, but I've had the feeling for a while since getting so close to the 4 week mark and seeing many others that applied after me get invites. I'll just have to try and pick myself up and focus on my other essays, however it is becoming difficult to write about myself confidently after having this big hit to my ego...

Anyways, good luck to the rest of you CBS hopefuls! I hope we get to cross paths post-MBA anyways!

Sorry for the ding bro, I'm sure you will get in to a top program but lool for advice to get potential feedback. Although there are so many variables that often it is just bad luck. Thats why people get admitted at one school and ding at another

Question for the forum: Have anyone of the admits been able to enter to the admitted students webpage? Does someone already have their lifetime ID?

Cheers!
J :)

Guys, I've been lurking for a while, but today I finally got the good news and I thought I should share this with everyone. I got the admit call for the ED August 2015 full time MBA and I am extremely excited about it! Please see my stats below:

Applied: 08/12/2014
Invited to interview: 09/02/2014
Report submitted: 09/09/2014
AD call: 09/11/2014

GMAT (1st try): 740

Good luck to everyone else and I hope to meet most of you soon!!!

PS: how long to get that PID? I want to wire my deposit as soon as possible! Also, wiring both deposits as one bulk sum shouldn't be a problem, right?

Does anyone who knows how to deal with wait list situation?
Thought it will be an offer today morning, but it is wait list. So sad and disappointed about it. :( :(
Don't know which aspect have the problem. I think the interview is really good and pleasant.
Or actually my background is not strong enough?
Anyone has tips or comments on that?

J, I went through this with the tech folks already, even though the letter says to check it for pertinent information it won't actually be live for a couple months we are "very early" right now. Which is cool, but I would maybe tweak the form letter a bit so people don't freak out too much ;)

It took me a couple days (3?) I don't remember exactly because I ended up using my SS# instead. The instructions on the first page were slightly different than the instructions on the 2nd page so I freaked out a little but I emailed admissions and they confirmed receipt.

To the folks who got in - congratulations!

Just out of curiosity, did any of you use the services of an admissions consultant? I am debating if I should do so in my application process (primarily with the essays, as that is probably the only thing I can change at this point).

Hey guys, I had a quick question for those of you that have also been through the interview already. Did you receive an email once the interviewer had submitted their review? It's been some time now and I haven't gotten any such notification or email and am wondering if the interviewer hasn't sent the form in yet. Should I reach out to them and ask them to submit? Thoughts?

Just thought I'd contribute my thoughts. I was admitted earlier.

I think your academics is good, nothing too outstanding but by no means having any concerns. I can see two things that might have contributed to the WL:

1. Big four audit. If it is Deloitte consulting, it might have been better. Audit experience is just not to the taste of a lot of top MBA programs. Audit is hard work and it is great experience but it is not as "good" as a lot of other experiences to the adcom.
2. I did not see you showing any international experience. I think that is quite important. If you were born and raised in HK, with work experience in HK, you may lack some international experiences.

That said, you may significantly increase your chance by having some good stories. A lot of times, it is not so much where you are today that matters, but how you get to where you are. Just two cents from my perspective. Good luck with the WL.

You will be notified when he submits to feedback but DO NOT reach out to them under any circumstance!
After 1 week if no notification call the admissions office and kindly tell them that you have completed your interview with NAME on DATE. Period. Don't say a word more. They will understand that you are calling because you are feeling anxious and remind your interviewer

Good luck!
Cheers!
