They’re fairly selective unlike Kellogg. Had asked this in one of the Q&A Sessions
That’s comforting, I suppose. Although anecdotally I’m hearing almost everyone get interviews (plus they moved away from rolling + ED this year so not sure if they’re trying to keep a bigger waitlist just in case their yield drops).

I’m not sure about almost everyone getting interviews. Its a biased reporting system as folks that haven’t received aren’t saying actively that they haven’t. Hard to tell that way. The sense I got ftom interactions with Adcom is that since they’ve changed their system now, there are a lot of things they were still figuring out before the R1 deadline. As applicants I think we should just wait to hear about any updates they share (and do whatever it takes to control anxiety).

Best not to speculate I feel (even though its hard not to)

The end to CBS's early decision certainly messed the process. It is a completely new way to approach the market now, and they are trying to figure out as they go.

Since the only thing we can do is wait, let's wait actively, speculating stuff lol

One thing I concluded from the end of ED is that they were kind of mad that people were paying the fee and later declining in bulk and/or several top candidates weren't applying for ED, and Columbia ended up accepting "worse" candidates, filling up the spots that should go to the "better" candidates.

Unravelling the market, i.e., starting admissions earlier, and forcing quick decisions is a great strategy for top schools slight behind HSW, so one can only wonder what happened

CBS is also seeing R1 as somewhat of an ED - the deposit for R1 is $6K vs $2K for R2.

Oh wow I just noticed that is the case from their website. Hopefully that means interview invites were fairly selective and conversion rates are higher.

at one of the events I went to about the admissions process, they said that those candidates who see CBS as their top choice should see R1 as ED...

somehow I feel they’ve invited everyone with high gmat (or some other such filter). They were rolling out invites chronologically and literally reached the bottom of the pile (i.e., who applied at deadline) in ~1 week.

if they had reviewed all beforehand, they would’ve sent out all on the same day

anyway fingers crossed!!

but nearly saw no new interview invites reported on ClearAdmit since the first week, I guess they have already sent out all invites and are waiting for the interview results

after recent interviews, I think some new invites will be released, just speculating

I have heard that it does not. Need-based scholarships are supposed to be different from merit and seeking to attract top talent and top applicants. Usually funding for them is also a bit diff structured than merit. I don’t know specifics of the Columbia structure but HBS has its alums funding a lot of it.

To all who applied R1 and got an interview invite, do you feel like GMAT score is heavily weighted in your chance of securing an interview?

Do I stand a chance if my GMAT is 690? (I am an international student with 6 YoE)

I think yes, CBS did weigh gmat in r1 interviews. their 80% range is 700-760 - so 690 is on lower end but might also depend on your demographic ?

Thank you for your insight. I am actually applying in R2, and try to improve GMAT now. Just want to know if GMAT can negatively affect my chance of getting an interview invite, given that all else are above average of admitted profiles.

i'd say keep everything tight, make sure gmat is the only thing that is out of the middle 80% stat-wise, write a compelling why CBS why MBA story that does no harm (make sure they can't find an easy reason to ding), is key
