Clarification - R1 Consortium. It appears it was included with R2 regular applicant pool. Thanks for that msg.

The Consortium deadline was 11/15, I received the email shortly before the holidays (12/22 I think).

Just got an interview invite. But the email states - ' ...contact you to schedule an on campus interview as soon as possible.' . Are other folks getting the same? I replied that I'm located in India and traveling to Ithaca for an interview would be difficult.

Info: Applied for R2 on the last day. App went under review: 11/26

No school will expect international applicants to travel to the campus for an interview. An exception would be Canada and Mexico.

Since you are live 5000 miles away from Ithaca, I think they wouldn't expect you to come visit them.

I do believe, however, you will increase your chances of admission by visiting the campus because it would show your enthusiasm for the school.

guys..have an interview on campus on the 14th.

usually black charcoal suit or a dark navy blue or gray suit may be order of the day in business circles and probably everybody might be sticking to that for interviewing...
i was wondering if wearing a brown english tweed suit is violating the so called "b-school" interview norms, essentially shouild i dare wearing it or should i stick to the official business school/corporate culture attire? also incase the verdict is that i need to buy a suit which one would u guys recommend? (2 vs 3 button), brand etc.

thanks a lot.

I don't know how a "brown english tweed suit" looks like. But I highly recommend you get a QUALITY (usually over $500) two button (3 buttons are VERY out of fashion and DO NOT buy them even if they are on sale) charcoal grey, black, or navy suit that fits (meaning not too big) you well. Once you become a student, you will need at least one quality interview suit anyhow. So consider it to be an investment.

As I have previously posted on this very issue, I think it is very important to LOOK like you are a 100K+/yr MBA graduate. Even if you make nowhere near as much and you haven't even started your MBA yet, you don't want to LOOK like a 50K/yr grunt who is not ready for MBA recruiting primetime.

As far as brand, the quality of the suit will speak for itself. Remember, the fabric and fit (and in this case color) are the most important. Also get a conservative looking suit. Do not get pinstripes (unless you are a good judge of suits). I personally prefer conservative Hugo Boss (HB also makes non-conservative suits which you should stay away) because it fits me really well, but you might be of different build. Joseph Abboud tends to be conservative and usually made of quality fabric.

I forgot to mention that you should get single breasted "classic" two button suit and not double breasted.

Alumni are well represented internationally. Someone may be able to interview you in India.

Just came back from Ithaca for my R2 interview

Questions I can remember:

1) why did you go to your UG?
2) Walk through resume
3) Tell me about a difficult decision
4) How have you added value to your company
5) Talk about leadership role at work
6) Why MBA now? Why Johnson
7) How do you get other people to buy into your view points
8) Questions about a hobby I put on my resume
9) What is your plan for the rest of the day?

There are a couple questions I wish I could have answered a little differently but it is what it is. Pretty standard questions and a lot of behaviorial questions trying to judge the fit with Johnson. Interview was 45 minutes and I asked several questions for the next 15 minutes or so.

Two things of note:

1. I don't recommend against driving to Ithaca in January. But please don't get there like I did AT NIGHT. I am a decent winter driver with snow tires on my 4wd car and I was intimidated driving on small, dark, wooded, hilly sideroads in Ithaca on a snowy night.

2. It seems like if you sign up for on-campus interview they automatically sign your up for a lunch info session with a current student. I did not get email about it. Fortunately I showed up for my interview appointment way early and ended up just having an informal chat with a 1st year who was already waiting for me in the altrium. I was "late" for the info session so hopefully that does not reflect badly on me.

I don't know about why people keep mentioning unhappy/unenthusiastic students, I have visited Johnson twice and EVERY student I met was as about enthusiastic and happy about their experience as they can be. The best advice the current student gives me about the interview was simply be yourself and be sincere.

what is the general consensus in regards to time limit for a repsonse to a question?

1. tell me about yourself/what's your story or walk me through your resume < 3 min
2. situational questions < 2 min
3. other questions < 1 min

want to get an idea so that i can prepare accordingly...ofcrs, i'm sure give or take a few seconds is fine for each
