2) Yes this hurts US market more because MBA associate hiring isn’t really a thing in other countries. Canada - associate hiring doesn’t exist, same with the UK. 3) technicals can be learned, industry knowledge helps but its the work quality and pace of the job that many people can’t learn in such a short amount of time that is often learned in finance roles, which is why a lot of those guys get return offers more often than not (with the exception of outliers) from finance/accounting backgrounds. Many can’t survive these environments because you literally do not get trained. Its a myth - do not expect any training, they throw you in the meat grinder and see who survives at the end.
Last point im going to make, i probably made it before is that the hours are not that bad. Most jobs in america you’re working over 65 hours a week. Even Corp Strategy jobs my friends are in they’re working 70-75 hours a week. The difference between leaving from IB to those jobs is a minor pay cut and maybe less hierarchical bs. At the end of the day, its just a desk job guys.

Just curious
Why IB is so hot as career path
Outside money .. any other factor
I mean ... everyone I know who working in IB complain it be very work heavy and toxic
They think you make a lot of money. I feel poor.
400 technicals wont do **** nowadays - thats ten years outdated. I press kids on conceptual on the spot and watch them crap their pants when I ask a question a slightly different way and realize they memorized the guides. I want to see a kid do it backwards and forwards.

every kid i meet who networks with me who wants to do ib nowadays is very very weird...doesn’t watch sports ( you dont have to but it helps a lot for relatability), very socially awkward, they have serial killer vibes, and dont have a life besides trying to break into banking.... Like we’re just normal people man. Chill.
I hope that answers everyone’s questions. Gotta get back to work. signing off for the night. Good luck!
