2) Yes this hurts US market more because MBA associate hiring isn’t really a thing in other countries. Canada - associate hiring doesn’t exist, same with the UK. 3) technicals can be learned, industry knowledge helps but its the work quality and pace of the job that many people can’t learn in such a short amount of time that is often learned in finance roles, which is why a lot of those guys get return offers more often than not (with the exception of outliers) from finance/accounting backgrounds. Many can’t survive these environments because you literally do not get trained. Its a myth - do not expect any training, they throw you in the meat grinder and see who survives at the end.

Last point im going to make, i probably made it before is that the hours are not that bad. Most jobs in america you’re working over 65 hours a week. Even Corp Strategy jobs my friends are in they’re working 70-75 hours a week. The difference between leaving from IB to those jobs is a minor pay cut and maybe less hierarchical bs. At the end of the day, its just a desk job guys.

Just curious
Why IB is so hot as career path
Outside money .. any other factor

I mean ... everyone I know who working in IB complain it be very work heavy and toxic
They think you make a lot of money. I feel poor.

400 technicals wont do **** nowadays - thats ten years outdated. I press kids on conceptual on the spot and watch them crap their pants when I ask a question a slightly different way and realize they memorized the guides. I want to see a kid do it backwards and forwards.

every kid i meet who networks with me who wants to do ib nowadays is very very weird...doesn’t watch sports ( you dont have to but it helps a lot for relatability), very socially awkward, they have serial killer vibes, and dont have a life besides trying to break into banking.... Like we’re just normal people man. Chill.

I hope that answers everyone’s questions. Gotta get back to work. signing off for the night. Good luck!

Wait hold up, more questions incoming😂

Your answers actually make sense. And I appreciate that you framed them in a nicer way.
And as someone who wants to break into banking from data analytics (also with a finance major), I am of course not a fan of that perspective.

Let’s say I have 7 months between admissions offer and matriculation, first semester is all recruiting and interview preps, then I have 6 months in second semester, then summer internship and 9 whole year before full time role. That’s 2e months of basically a lot of other prep you can do.

So let me ask you this: can anything be done to prepare and not be a “pain in the ass mba associate”? Is it to become accounting guru? Any ideas? What relevant experience in finance will help other than working with 10Ks, 10Qs and having real deep understanding of fin statements?

Few online chatter
But not sure if we can interpret as few invites

If 65% of classroom is domestic students and hardly any domestic applicants in this group

Maybe we are not getting full picture

Mine stayed as “schedule interview” even though I obviously did the interview and got a post interview follow up email— feel like the status change is meaningless lol

For those who don’t want to look it up, person who got accepted per clearadmit was military, p low GPA and average GRE. Based in NY.

Apparently got notified via email lol I’d have thought they would call to notify

A lot of military folks are shifting to MBA than before

A lot of Doctors too, visited a fair back in India. There were surgeons thinking for an MBA
