Hello Class of 2017,

I'm looking for a little advice. I will by applying for the FT program by the Round 3 deadline (just in time to be considered for The Cox Distinguished MBA Scholars Program) and was wondering if over the course of your time at COX (and time with your classmates), you have learned what it takes to get a full scholarship (and/or grants) or be accepted into this Distinguised Scholars program?

My wife doesn't want me to go back to school if we have to go into debt (haha), but we both think the opportunities provided by SMU would be great for our future, especially since we would like to be in Dallas long term (I was born and raised in the Dallas suburbs).

A little about me: white male (29 - US citizen) with a mechanical engineering degree from a reputable state school - 3.17 GPA; good community service history (not stellar - I haven't opened an orphanage or anything); interesting work experience working on offshore platforms with large oil and gas companies and embarking on some entrepreneurial endeavors in real estate and energy (didn't make me rich, but they paid the bills, gave me tangible assets, and got my feet wet in business); I am currently employed (not just looking to go back to school because of a layoff or anything); I have solid references who are current and former supervisors; I have clear career goals in the oil and gas sector; I am a pretty good interviewer

I think I should have at least a decent application thus far, but I am really curious what I need to make on the GMAT to "seal the deal" on a full ride? I scored a 720 and 730 on 2 of the GMATPrep Practice tests - if I did as good on the actual GMAT, would I be in the running for full scholarships? In your estimation, what would "seal the deal" on a full ride if the rest of the application was strong? 760? Higher? Lower? I know every application is different, but I am looking for your best estimation through your year and half of experience with the program.

I really appreciate the help and welcome any advice! Good luck with y'all's last half year in the program!

Thanks,
DallasLastMinuteGMAT
