I think most applicants are laser-focused on this one new rule (which matters) while ignoring the bigger trend: a systematic pushback on legal immigration this presidency is driving
Yes, it’ll be challenged or watered down—but does that mean we snap back to “normal”? Probably not. The new normal is policy churn: H-1B today; tomorrow CPT/OPT, STEM-OPT, F-1 COS, L-1, wage levels, consular screening, even social-media vetting
So don’t plan around a single rule—plan around how much volatility and downside you can absorb over the next ~3.5 years. Run best/base/worst scenarios, set financial guardrails (don’t gamble into $200K debt), and make choices that survive either outcome. Hope for relief—operate for volatility.
