I did not visit. I think my essays set me apart.

They must have :-) Did you apply to the Healthcare program by any chance? I did and I wonder if it's more competitive too?

I applied to the Healthcare program and got an invite. I didn't know there was a difference in admissions competition. Is everyone interviewing in NC? I'm wrote in my application that I'd like to interview in NYC.

Last night I was so sleepy I wrote on the Booth thread 'That's it. I'm off to bed. This wait is boring.' instead of here. Lol. Had a good night's sleep and woke up to my Duke invite. Congratulations to all my fellow interview invitees!

The status check mail says
"If you have been waitlisted or have not been invited, please note that this is not a final decision on your application. The interview invitation is highly selective. It is possible that you would be invited to interview at a later stage in this round or in future rounds"

Did anyone in EA or R1 get an interview invite after the single invitation date? Should I still keep my hopes up for receiving an invite?

Same. Not invited. If they do not interview any candidates who haven't been invited at first go, it seems strange that they should include that sentence. I fail to see the reason behind it.

Though Kellogg is known to interview people telephonically at the very end of the cycle if they are very interested, this seems to me, slightly similar (though I do not know Duke patterns). If they find a deficit of your type/profile and you have compelling quantifiables, I think they would contact you for an interview just to see. Just a thought.

Got my invite yay...well I got the email and was off to a meeting so I didn't get to read it carefully and thought I'd have gotten a separate invite email too if I had been invited for an interview, didn't see one in my inbox and assumed I didn't get one until I checked my Duke application status online per the link and saw that I got the invite, plus the email said the invited email comes out Feb 7th, not right away...

Thanks for the responses, folks. Also, has Duke released waitlist decisions now? That was another thing in that sentence which I didn't understand.

Thought I would share my interview experience with the R2 applicants :-

I had my interview with a Fuqua Alum in India. The alum was very cordial during the interview, I didnt feel like I was in an interview !

I took a copy of my resume along, so for the first 5 mins, he perused through my resume thoroughly and then the following questions followed :-

a) Tell me about yourself
b) Walk me through your resume, followed up some questions regarding my work-ex specifically and some awards.
c) What are your goals ?
d) Why Fuqua ? My advice, make this answer as personal as possible, by quoting your experiences with the alumni, info sessions, school visits etc.
I had 3 specific reasons, with one of the reasons strongly aligned with post-MBA goals.
e) Tell me about some of your leadership experiences ?
f) What are your strengths ?
g) What are your weaknesses ?

And then finally make sure you end the interview on a high, ask some probing questions regarding his/her fuqua experience and participate in that discussion, this shows your commitment to Fuqua.

All the best guys, I would say the key is Why Fuqua ? so prepare that well and also prepare 2 to 3 good questions for the alumni towards the end !!

Total time :- 1 hr, with the last 15 mins reserved for my questions !!

For those of you who got it, did all of you visit Fuqua?

I didn't get invited but I felt I had a strong app, along with peer recommendations. My GMAT is 700+, high GPA, good undergrad school.

The only thing that I can think of is that by not visiting, I messed up my chances.

I think 70-80% of denied applicants at almost every top 10-15 school is from either lack of fit (via essays and letters) or industry representation. If schools like Stanford, Wharton, HBS, Sloan, Kellogg, etc. wanted to have their class average GPA at 3.8+ and GMAT at 750+, they could. Applying to B-school isn't like applying to law school; stats are just checkmarks, and all adcom members concentrate on is putting together a diverse class.

Congratulations to all the R2 interview calls !

Hope these links will help you guys !

Interview Q & A site - Here you need to sign up by paying around $20

https://mba.zoominterviews.com

- this will get you an idea on how to use the SOAR , for eg:- check out the question

Tell me about a time when your team failed. What did you learn from the failure?
So you should prepare your responses for team/leadership/failure experiences in a similar manner.

Cornell Interview Reports - You can do a similar search for Duke Reports as well !!
https://www.clearadmit.com/wiki/index.ph ... lInterview

https://www.accepted.com/mba/interviews/ ... mit&bhcp=1

Some important links :-

https://www.manhattangmat.com/gmat-mba-p ... erview.cfm - Prepare the stories as in the table format, given it will help you !!

https://adam-markus.blogspot.com/2007/11 ... ategy.html - The best link of all !!!

https://mbainterviews.blogspot.com/2009/09/chart.html

https://mbainterviews.blogspot.com/2009/ ... rship.html

https://mbainterviews.blogspot.com/searc ... ntribution

https://mbainterviews.blogspot.com/search/label/goals

https://mbainterviews.blogspot.com/2010/ ... ction.html

https://www.accepted.com/mba/questions.aspx

https://www.accepted.com/mba/interviews/ ... earch.aspx - to search school based interview experiences for foreign schools.

These links were extremely helpful during my preparation, hope they do the same with you all !!

Be thorough with the SOAR model for behavioral questions, it helps you not to ramble !!

All the best !!

Totally agree. I feel like the adcom first looks for a compelling story and good fit, clear goals, etc, THEN they check your data points (GMAT, GPA, etc). I think at that point your data points are used mostly to determine if you can handle the courseload and you become a red flag if they are too low (I.e. Going to have a tough time getting into M7 school with a 620 GMAT, 50th percentile quant score, etc).

When its all said and done i believe that adcom is looking for leaders with a clear vision, passion, and a proven track record. Good GPA/GMAT will not get you into a T15 school. But a poor one could keep you out!

Do you think once you get the interview invite, you've essentially passed the gpa/gmat hurdle? Or could that still come back to bite you even if you nailed the interview and everything else.
