Quick question and apologies if it has been asked before but what percentage of the applicant pool at Duke gets invited to interview? Thanks!

From Businessweek:

Total App: 3506
App Interviewed: 53% = 1858
App Accepted: 24% = 841
Admit Enrolled: 53% = 446

I think the issue (from previous posts) was that the "interviewed" number isn't broken down by self-initiated and invited.

Thank you! Ah that is a good question. 53% is high but it probably has many self initiatated interviews from ED and R1.

These numbers are probably from last year, so it prob includes all rounds. But, regardless of the interviewed number is, I would like to eventually be part of that 24% number. lol

Hope some of the EA admits can throw some more light on the Kroll background check process !

The Fuqua website says the following :-
"Fuqua has retained Kroll Background America to verify the information included in applications. We do this to deter fraudulent applications and preserve the integrity of our community. If you are admitted and submit your tuition deposit, you will be provided with instructions on the verification process. You will also be responsible for the fee for this service. "

My queries are :-
What are the instructions ?
What is the fee for this service ?
When do you receive this Kroll notification, is it after you pay the non-refundable deposit ?

I would be extremely grateful for any of the EA admits to throw some light on this process !!

I didn't get invited but I felt I had a strong app, along with peer recommendations. My GMAT is 700+, high GPA, good undergrad school.
You had "peer" recommendations? Not from supervisors or higher level people?

I had both - supervisors plus peer. Fuqua was my backup...LOL!!

Do they give feedback as to why you didn't make it?

I emailed them asking this very question, please read their response below:

We're sorry that you were not invited to interview, but remind you that your interview status is not necessarily indicative of your admissions decision status. You may be asked to interview at a later time. Admissions decisions for Round 2 candidates will not be released until March 25, 2011. Unfortunately, we do not provide feedback regarding candidacy at any time.

Does anyone know whether there is an advantage of interviewing on Campus vs. interviewing in New York?

I don't think there's that big of a difference whether you interview on or off campus. My suggestion is that if you have the time and money and that if you have never been to Durham, let alone Duke campus, you should take a field trip and really appreciate the culture and diversity that Fuqua can offer. Of course, not everyone has the time and I wouldn't stress too much about on or off campus interview.

I'm going to durham for the interview even though I've already visited. It might not help me in the admissions process, but I am so looking forward to weather. It's 30-40 degrees warmer than where I am :)

Have any Round 1 applicants heard anything about scholarships yet?

I heard two days after they admitted us.

For everyone worried about interviewing on campus months ago and not hearing anything now- don't worry. If anything, I think the AdCom will look favorably upon it- you spent the time and money to go visit, interview, and spend a day with current students- I don't think you should be regretting that now. I was in your same shoes when round one interview invites went out and then lo and behold, I was admitted a month later with a substantial scholarship.

You'll be fine :)
