I am trying to understand your numbers. Where do you see that Fuqua had 35 MBB hires? According to the BW page it was only 6 (all McKinsey). Please let us know where you are finding other data as this would make a BIG difference in influencing my decision of where to attend. (Only 6 MBB with 440 students would put Duke at 1.3%--This would be horrible for consulting)
If you look in the employment report on the 1st page of this thread.
The placement is as follows for M/B/B for Class of 2010 (intern for Class of 2011)
McK - 7 (10)
BCG - 3 (8)
Bain - 2 (4)
Total - 12 (22) --> 34

This number is for the entire school. However, you need to keep in mind that 1) last year, consulting was cutting down on hiring, 2) only 20-25% of the students at Fuqua recruit for consulting, and 3) there are other consulting companies out there.

M/B/B isn't the end all and be all of consulting. There are people who turn down M/B/B for "lower-tier" or boutique consulting for various reasons (especially for the large contigent of people who are interested in healthcare consulting).

Great Info/insight, thanks!

Hi,
I am interesred to hear how Duke is valued by employees in the US? I am considering applying but would want to know what value I would get for money if I choose Duke. Thanks!

Someone on the forum once said "rankings matter very little once you are in business school." I think it's pretty true. Once you are in business school, the thing that matters the most is recruiting. And companies won't change their recruiting policies just because fluctuations in rankings. One thing companies appear to look for in selecting core schools is cultural fit of the school and company, as well as the performance of past alums at the company. I know Fuqua has made the core school list for several companies this year (and losing one).

When you guys choose schools this year, I would recommend to chose based on fit and industry/function recruitment rather than on relative ranking.

I couldn't agree more. Well put.

Out of curiosity, what companies added/deleted Fuqua to their core list this year?

So US News rankings are released next Tuesday. It'll be interesting to see where Fuqua ends up. Ultimately, it won't matter that much and I believe their methodology is flawed, but I'll still be watching to find out. One thing we know is that Fuqua won't be ranked in the top 11. What will be interesting is to see where Fuqua is ranked vs. Ross and Darden.

Ultimately, I think we can all agree that Businessweek has the best rankings anyway.

Not sure if you've seen this "ranking of the rankings"...but it's a pretty good read.

Thanks. That's good stuff.

Looks like some upward movement for Fuqua --> #12 on the new US News Rankings.
That brings the average BW and News ranking down to #9 (after been stuck at average #10 for the last few years).

Maybe next year, we'll be in the US News top 10 once again.

For roll call purposes: I just dropped the card in the mail to turn down the offer from Duke/Fuqua. It's a spectacular school, and I wish you all the best.

Good luck at Tuck, Cak. They've got a wonderful program as well.

As long as we're updating the roll call, I've accepted my place in Fuqua's 2013 class.

Has anyone accepted in R1 been able to successfully negotiate a scholarship increase? I was awarded no scholarship, and was just happy to be accepted honestly. But, I just was awarded a pretty good scholarshp from Ross, enough to make me reconsider Duke as my top choice. Does anyone have advice on how to frame this? I don't want to seem greedy.

If I were you, I'd contact Fuqua, tell them about your scholarship to Ross and see if they will/can match it. The worst that can happen is they say no. Fuqua isn't going to rescind your offer because you asked the question.

I got the sense that Duke has already awarded all of their scholarship money and that they won't have more money to give unless some of those offered money decline their offer.

What do you guys think is the number 1, 2, and 3 reason why a candidate would be dinged post-interview?

Someone told me once, that one of the things interviewers look for is "If I was hiring for a job, would I hire this person?"

Hireabiliy. If thats a word. If you have a 800 gmat, 5.0 gpa, but can't get a sentence out without stuttering or have massive facial tattoos, then that might be a reason.

Bad Breath might cause a ding too. So brush. lol

It depends on the program. Given the relatively short time between interviews and decisions (I think it was only two weeks for R1), I'm not sure how important the interview is at Duke.

I've always thought non-native English speakers could get dinged if they couldn't communicate well in their interview.
