Waitlisted. However, I'm matriculating elsewhere, so hopefully that will make it easier for someone on this forum. Blessings.

question for international admits from previous rounds: Can international students use student loan on the declaration of finances? (I mean the Coastal Federal Credit Union loan)
Also, let's say that I have applied to the loan for $72,535 (per/year)- total cost of attendance. Do you think that I should still show some other source of personal funds? Would it be necessary, or say would it make the whole visa process easier? I'll eventually discuss this with someone from the school but just wanted to hear you guys' take on this one...

So excited with my admit to Fuqua! Still torn beween Stern (great scholarship) and Fuqua (no scholarship news as of yet). Question - are many of you attending BDW? Wondering if it will be mostly a sell weekend, or a good chance to meet fellow classmates...

I've rsvp'd for BDW and reserved a hotel room. While I hope to meet our future classmates and find housing in Durham that weekend, I'll probably miss BDW and travel to Durham a week or two later because my wife's due date is April 16th. I assume that means I'll have the youngest kid in our class.

A few weeks early, but congratulations! That's really exciting!

When I received my admit, I was told that any merit scholarship decisions would take another two weeks. But I received an email regarding my financial aid a few days later, which didn't include any scholarships. Did anyone receive scholarship information in their financial aid packet, or do I just have to wait another week and a half?

In at Fuqua today! Anyone have any thoughts between a full scholarship at UT Austin / full scholarship at UNC / and possibly no money at Fuqua? I have no idea what to do.

For me, there is no question ... Fuqua. My goals are likely very different from yours however. What is more important to you, the price you pay or the education you receive?

UNC and UT are both fine institutions. Which university will do the most to help you achieve your goals however? The satisfaction of having attended the right school (for you) will far outlast the cost of that school - by orders of magnitude.

If you can afford the time, take a closer look at each school. Whatever you end up deciding, good luck ... and congratulations on having so many attractive offers in hand!

Random question: If I need to email Fuqua about something, should I use the admitted email address given at on the ISW website, or should I write to the person of Admissions who interviewed me?

Thanks sjain and wschaeff. I've heard about the Fuqua partners cooking meals for new parents, unfortunately, our lil' man will be about three months old when we move to Durham, so we'll miss out on that opportunity.

As for financial aid, I wouldn't read too much into that financial aid email. You have to fill out a FAFSA and apply for student loans, so they probably are just encouraging you to get a jump start on the process. You can apply for student loans and then decline to accept the funds offered to you, so there isn't much downside to at least applying for them.

Regarding scholarship money, Duke doesn't offer much from what I understand. Scholarships are all merit based and are handled apart from financial aid (i.e. I believe they're handled by admissions and not the financial aid office). If you're awarded a scholarship, you'll be informed within two weeks. If you aren't offered a scholarship, you won't be told a thing. Based on posts to this forum and what I was told by the admissions office, I believe they typically call students awarded a scholarship to inform them of the committee's decision. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice gmontalvo. I'm looking to get into management consulting with a big-4 firm with a retail specialty after school with an international bend. With that as a given, the plethora of international offerings at Duke, as well as their pretty successful consulting placement track record, seems to be making Duke a superior option. Maybe some money will come my way and make this an easier decision. Its just hard to turn down that much money! At this point, it feels like play money.

heh - Yeah, your goals appear to have Fuqua written all over them. In the long run, the education pays for itself (at least that is what I tell my sell as I sign the checks). I'll be curious to know what you end up deciding - keep us in the loop. ;)

Also waitlisted, but still very interested in Duke. I was accpeted at UT McCombs and I have to accept admission and pay the deposit by monday. There is of course no chance of hearing from Duke by then.

Any body know what would be the repercussions of acceptiung admissions and paying the deposit at UT but possibly rejecting their offer in the future if I'm suddenly accepted at Duke? I imagine I just lose the deposit.

Anybody else in this situation?

*raises hand* I was accepted by Emory, with money, before my Fuqua interview even happened. And their deadline for the deposit was the 15th, so I went ahead and paid the deposit, because y'know, what if? :?

As far as I know, you can use the loan for visa purposes. I havent done mine yet- but some earlier admit should be able to confirm this here- also your 2nd question as well. I have seen some other internaitonal admits here so far... Anyone?
