Regarding Kroll background check. Unless things changed, Fuqua doesn't do the check.

We trust our students.

Just so there is no confusion, Fuqua IS using Kroll this year.
My bad.

Hi,
Could you please share some advice on the "calculus requirement" ? I am waitlisted and got an email which says the following about the Calculus course "...This is an admissions requirement that must be met by July 15, 2011. Be sure to let us know if you take the course as it may affect our ability to extend an offer of admission to you......"

I guess all waitlisted candidates got this email ? Why do waitlisted candidates have to do the Calculus course if there is a possibility that they might not be offered admission?

Another question --> Is there going to be any waitlist movement at all this year? I guess the class is already filled since many students have paid the deposit and turned up for the Welcome weekend.

The requirement is for all students. Most students will have taken a Calculus course during their Undergrad years and earned a C or higher. This should only be a concern for you if you have not taken Calculus. Many other schools have similar requirements for "core" courses like Accounting and Calculus.

In fact, Fuqua makes this clear in their application so it should not be a surprise to anyone. Best of luck.

Let Duke know recently that I won't be attending. Hope those of you on the waitlist hear something soon!

where did you decide on?

Wharton - I was lucky enough to receive quite a significant scholarship from them which made every other school much more expensive. Good luck to all heading to Duke later this year!!

Hello:

I am new to this forum, but it seems like an excellent online community. I have recently decided to apply for the Cross Continent Program for Fall 2011. My workload may be decreasing considerably over the next year (acquisition of primary product line) and I feel like this is a great time to divert my attention to my MBA. I have one month to complete my application and GMAT prior to the final deadline. I had a 3.1 GPA (3.5+ in Business Administration), great work experience and expect a 650+ on my GMAT. Is this a fool's errand to be starting so late in the process? I am planning to apply to the Thunderbird distance program as well.

Great luck to everyone. Any comments are welcome.

I don't see why you wouldn't have a shot at it. In fact I'm on here today to do a bit of research myself into the Duke Cross-Continent program. I was contacted earlier today and asked whether I was interested in joining. I had previously been turned down for the full time MBA many months ago so this came out of no where. Now I have some decisions of my own to make as I've also been accepted to ASU and waitlisted at Marshall. I am really going back and forth today trying to decide on which option makes the most sense... Good luck to you!

Thanks for the reply. I hope you're right. I spoke with an admissions counselor today and was told that I have a good shot at admittance and should continue the application process. If you haven't reached out to one of the counselors I DEFINITELY recommend it. Mine was very knowledgable and answered questions close to an hour.

Have you made a decision yet? The CCMBA is the absolute perfect format for me, but I understand that everyone has different goals and needs. Good luck!

By admissions counselor, do you mean at Duke or at a consulting company?

At Duke. She is one of the counselors that reviews applications and conducts actual interviews, although she said that she cannot conduct mine now.

Is anyone else considering buying a house in the Durham area?

I know there was some information at BDW on this topic, but unfortunately I missed BDW.

If you have purchased a home in the area or you're thinking of doing so, please send me a PM. I'd love to discuss this approach with you. Thanks in advance.

Just turned down my acceptance to Duke - so there should be another spot on the wait-list! I was awarded the Peace Corps fellowship also - so maybe another spot for that scholarship will open up as well.

Hi all. Nice to read through and see how many are heading out to Duke! I was in R2, now waitlisted for R3 and interviewed on campus last week. Trying to stay patient for May 9th...

I was accepted in R2 and decided to go to Duke. Duke has confirmed that the admissions office has received my deposit and all my transcripts. The only thing that is left is the background check process. I was told by an office staff that this is the first year they employ this service <gulp> and it will take 3-6 weeks. So the latest I will know if I matriculate for sure is mid-June and the Health Sector Management program starts in late July...

I'm wondering if anyone has gone through the Kroll background check process and what their experiences are. I found a house and I'd like to sign a lease but I'm wondering if I need to wait for Kroll to finish the background check? I also need to sell/rent my current place...

Your input of your experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

There's also a dedicated thread for Kroll's background checks, if you want more details, you can look it up.

I'm a R2 waitlister, and besides sending in the initial "Yes, I want to be on the waitlist" form I have not contacted Duke in anyway. Given that we might hear something on May 9th, would it be a good idea to send another email stating my interest in attending? The problem is that I have had no concrete updates in my profile really. I plan on taking the Calculus course which starts in June, but that's about it.

For those who are interested in consulting:
The preliminary report just released, out of those who reported so far:

31 Interns at M/B/B
30 Full-time at M/B/B

I know a few others who are going to M/B/B, but didn't report it yet (and not included in those numbers).

That's a remarkable increase from the 12 full time hires I gleaned off of the 2010 employment report! What do you think it's attributed to? Were most hired by McKinsey? (a result of the new board member's influence/efforts?)

I think it was a function of the economy and slow-down in hiring in the consulting industry ...

agreed. there was 22 M/B/B interns last summer (class of '11) so a little bit more (full-time) than that (in tandem w/ the ongoing improvement in the global econ.) makes sense- let's hope that it's going to increase even more than that next year...
