Haven't chimed in here in a bit, but something new has come up.

I've been thinking more about trying to do the Cross Continent program, after getting waitlisted from the Daytime program in R2. My specific job is not necessarily what I want to do after b-school, but I love my company, and I'm optimistic that my company will find some good use for me as I go through this program.

So, I'm thinking about it. The exposure to a bunch of global markets would be really great, and if my company supported it, would allow me to learn a lot more about our operations in those markets.

Anyway, the total amount of posts about Cross Continent on GC is pretty small. Can anyone speak to their knowledge of this program either here or in a PM? It's definitely a different animal than a traditional MBA. I'm just wondering about how some people have put it to use in their career and the value they got out of it. Any info would be appreciated.

Hey jsmith, a bit opposite of you, I was accepted to Cross Continent last year and decided to re-apply to the fulltime this year. Personally, I thought the program was amazing. It's definitely a cross between an EMBA and a ftMBA, perfect if it's been awhile since you finished undergrad and you're looking to accelerate your career in your current field, particularly at the global level.

My decision not to attend was based on two factors: cost (more than half of each cohort is sponsored by their employer), and depth of material. I only spoke to one student, but he emphasized that if you are looking to switch fields, you will not have the depth of curriculum to do so.

Otherwise, the staff, material, structure all looked amazing. It is incredibly well-organized, they've thought of everything if you're their target market.

So after 8 schools it has come down to Georgetown V Duke. I like the metropolitan and vicinity of Georgetown to the government, especially since i want to go back to working in the government. Yet Duke is a better ranked business school. Why should I choose one over the other? Any advice is appreciated?

if determined about your goal of working in us.gov, then defo Gtown. for everything else, there's mastercard- sorry Duke.

I think Duke's brand name will get you a lot farther than Georgetown's proximity to govt buildings. We're talking a top 10 school vs a top 30- just my two cents of course, but go Fuqua!

I suggest Duke. Duke has excellent placements in the private AND public sector and is much higher ranked. Georgetown is a good school, but living in DC can be quite expensive as a student and you don't have to be in DC to get a government job. My one caveat is go to Georgetown solely because you currently live in DC and don't want to move, which I understand because it has way more to offer than Durham.

So, it seems a few people are turning down the money at Duke... Will Fuqua redistribute that money to those of us who weren't awarded anything? :-)

Most likely.

As a Round 3 applicant currently waiting for the decision, I wouldn't mind if you guys get all the money so long as I get an admit.

Has anybody else turned Fuqua down for a different school yet? Just curious to see how many spots, if any, have opened up for the R3 and WL folks...

looks like we get that information after they receive our deposit.

Yeah, they received the deposit from me. Did any of the R2 admits whose deposit was received by Duke get any info from Admissions office about how to start Kroll background check process? If yes, then when was the info received?

I am R1 admit and I sent in my deposit about a month ago and I still have not heard from Duke on starting the background check with Kroll? Has anyone started theirs?

Hey all. I'm a R2 admit and wasn't able to visit last weekend for Blue Devil Weekend.

I'm trying to decide whether it's worth it to visit Fuqua this Friday. Does anyone know whether classes are still taking place on Good Friday?

Also, do "Fuqua Fridays" take place every week and could a potential future student like me attend?

Anything else interesting going on this Friday/Saturday at Fuqua???

Yes, we have class...sadness. This weekend is actually a fun time to be at Fuqua. Friday night's Fuqua Friday is co-sponsored by the Culinary Club and the Wine Club. The Culinary Club is hosting its annual "Fuqua Iron Chef" event a la Iron Chef on Food Network and the wine club is having special wines which they will pair with what looks to be above average Fuqua Friday food. You can attend Fuqua Friday as a visitor. It is also Blue Cup Weekend, which is an annual athletic conference between the Duke and UNC MBA programs.

Hello:

I am new to this forum, but it seems like an excellent online community. I have recently decided to apply for the Cross Continent Program for Fall 2011. My workload may be decreasing considerably over the next year (acquisition of primary product line) and I feel like this is a great time to divert my attention to my MBA. I have one month to complete my application and GMAT prior to the final deadline. I had a 3.1 GPA (3.5+ in Business Administration), great work experience and expect a 650+ on my GMAT. Is this a fool's errand to be starting so late in the process? I am planning to apply to the Thunderbird distance program as well.

Great luck to everyone. Any comments are welcome.

I don't see why you wouldn't have a shot at it. In fact I'm on here today to do a bit of research myself into the Duke Cross-Continent program. I was contacted earlier today and asked whether I was interested in joining. I had previously been turned down for the full time MBA many months ago so this came out of no where. Now I have some decisions of my own to make as I've also been accepted to ASU and waitlisted at Marshall. I am really going back and forth today trying to decide on which option makes the most sense... Good luck to you!
