Been silent for quite sometime...but happy to see the momentum here.
I attended the information session for Duke here in Bangalore, India last weekend and was pretty happy with my decision of applying to this school.
With my main focus on G.M., duke seems a good bet.

I will be applying in R2 and have my GMAT next week so do pray for me... :)

Hey, I'm going to be real honest with everyone right now. I love getting to know people, and I love hearing about all your experiences, profiles etc. I sincerely mean that, especially when I hear about all the diversity in those who are applying.

However, I'm getting tired of reading peoples posts who say things like, "oh man, I had a 3.7 GPA in college, I'm totally screwed I know." Or, like the multiple posts I've seen recently that rag on gmat scores. Like, oh I was in the 89th percentile *cough* *cough* 690, I'm dead in the water. Stuff like that drives me crazy, and I don't think it's necessarily fair to those reading the blog who didn't have a 4.0 gpa or a millionth percentile gmat score. Personally, I've done well in both areas (albiet not near a 4.0 gpa or 750 gmat [or whatever a truly awesome score is]), but yeah. You need to keep in mind that Fuqua in particular wants a diverse background, which is reflected in the fact that their 80% range is 620 - 740 or whatever.

Yeah, I'm blowing off some steam here, but I'm just tired of that stuff. It's great to post your profile, lets discuss, make comments, words the wise, etc etc. But please, for my sake, and any and everyone else on these boards who may agree with me, leave the "holy s*** im totally screwed cause I only got a 710 on my gmat" BS.

I understand where you are coming from and largely agree. I feel like these posters often fall into a few categories:

Many on here are Type A personalities and are quite used to constantly competing and struggling with others. It's hardly surprising that their reaction to this sort of community is to throw numbers around like this. They have something to prove, though this is a strange place to have a pissing contest or whatever you want to call it. I mean, heck, ignore my signature on the left...did you know I had a 4.2 GPA and a perfect 800 GMAT? No? Well that's cause I didn't, but it's certainly easy to type that I did...

Still, to me, there are also those that cry about their poor 760 scores, GPA, work experience, or such are often hoping that someone else will post a contradictory comment like, "hey guy, you have a great profile so don't worry." I've known quite a few people in my life that are like this, who are outwardly confident and such, but inwardly need others to validate them, even more so as we have such a hard time gauging what is valuable to the adcom.

Of course there are others on here that genuinely feel like they are not competitive. Remember, many that post (or even brag) about their scores and profiles have strong ones. Seeing all of that, is it any surprise that others with even slightly less are concerned?

I know there are other types out there too but I do seem to run into the above a bit. Heck, I might even be in those categories myself at times...though I'll never tell! I'm not going to tell others what they should and shouldn't post though. That's life and this forum allows for complainers, braggarts, sincere people, and all other sorts. As long as we respect each other than all's good to me.

I would suggest that you may have misunderstood the point and tone of my post, though I could be wrong. Also, I'm sorry that you find the psychoanalytical approach BS, though I respect your right to your opinion. I hope you are able to take it easy, let this slide, and get a beer of your own.

i tend to agree about the crying for no reason but at the same, keep in mind that only the nerdiest of the nerds and dorks post on gmatclub. most applicants don't so remember who you are dealing with here! once ive accepted this fact, its easier to read this forum

Amen to that! I feel you. Take a look at the swath of individuals interviewed and accepted. I got dinged from Chicago with 690 GMAT and 3.2 GPA and pretty good diverse work experience. At the top 2 or 3 schools, you may get dinged for not having a 750 and 4.0 GPA. However, I witnessed 4.0 770's get dinged without interviews from there as well. I think you need to take a look at your applicant pool. If you are an Indian international, you might need a higher GMAT to compete with your talent pool. If you are an African American woman, you may only need a 640 GMAT as you are likely underrepresented. All you can do is tell your story. If your scores and gpa are in the 80% range, you have a good shot. It's all about your story. Good luck to all.

i do agree with bschoolapplicant2010 on some aspects and i kinda lol at those with 750s and 3.6s+ and cry "im doomed" but those who are at the average or below average do have reason to moan. For me my gpa sucks and i am fighting an uphill battle on pretty much every school i am applying for since it falls on the low end gpa spectrum.... but i accepts it since there's really nothing i can do at this point but if i am not getting invite the low gpa is prob the number 1 thing i jump on for the reason.....

side note, the waiting is killing me here.... i really hope my self initiated interview will sway their decision.... the school is very nice and nice people too....

The Social Anthropologist Kate Fox wrote about Tribal Behaviour in Modern Society and gave as example how people initiate bonding and acceptance with 1) downplaying sth: Look, scores 2) Counterpart reassures the person's confidence with compliment 3) Trade bonding pattern back and forth. She highlights that there is a slight element of comeuppance.

So what did they say ashu2020 ?

Hi Friends,

Just got promoted in office

Was wondering , whether I should send a mail to Ad-com informing them about my promotion.
Or Simply update it in the online application details.

Unfortunately, Fuqua's FAQ doesn't cover this. I'd contact the adcom to inquire about this. Some schools specifically state that promotions will not effect consideration of the application once it's been submitted (such as Ross). These schools will consider such things as improved GMAT scores though. Still, I know that other schools will take such things as promotions into consideration. As Fuqua doesn't explicitly say, I'd just email/call them to find out. In their online application directions, they do say that you can only submit your information once, and that any additional information or updates should be made by calling their office at 919.660.7705.

Thank you so much for the advice. I will definitely give them a call

Yup, makes sense to me. I'd word it differently, but then I'm not a social anthropologist (though I really enjoyed those classes in college). It's ideas like this, which we can actually use if understood and utilized in the proper context, that gets me excited about education and learning. I know we've gone way far afield on quite a tangent though. Apologies to those that came out on this branch with me hoping for Fuqua stuff and instead getting my cheap opinion on the above.

Any R1 interview calls? When do they start?

Not yet, and it's going to be awhile. If it's anything like last year, it will be on the exact date as shown on their website. This year that date is December 17. For EA this year some found out they were invited a day early by checking the website the night before the deadline. So what this means is we likely have a bit of a wait in front of us.

I'm curious as to what everyone is thinking. I say smart money is on either 11/24 or 11/29.... thinking that 11/29 is the more likely of the two.

Does anyone know the notification format? Do they send you an email saying whether you are accepted, or do they just send you an email with a link that directs you to another page?

Also, does anyone here know when interviews had to be conducted by for EA applicants last year?

Good-luck to everyone waiting whether that's EA, R1, R2, etc

As Fuqua's website says December 3rd, I'll bet on that one.

As for the format, you should be notified by email, but you can also check your status on their website. The website was actually faster than the emails last year and some were discovering their status a few hours before emails even went out.
