Duke has a large and active partners network, so if your wife is interested, admissions should be able to arrange for her to talk to someone who is a member of Fuqua Partners (maybe even someone who has young children).

I visited campus with my wife earlier this year, and I can say that she was fine at the receptions and social stuff, but she was pretty bored during the presentations and student panels.

Looks like Duke extended the R2 deadline by a day: https://www.fuqua.duke.edu/programs/duke_mba/daytime/apply_daytime/

Does anyone know what time? I know some schools have it by 5:00 pm local time while others go by 11:59 pm.

From Fuqua's online application:
All deadlines are 5:00 PM Eastern Time

Yeah, you should be fine. Black, navy, and charcoal are all standard colors. Good luck!

You guys realize that it's business casual? Check the guidelines.

Although the suggested attire is business casual, I saw quite a few people with suits during my interview.

A suit is always a safe bet coz tht's what you are always expected to wear...even i would suggest you to go for that only...

I'll preface my statement by saying that if you are not interviewing on campus, then I would wear a suit. Good luck!

The day I interviewed, every single person was wearing a suit. I think it's better to be over than under dressed.

I think you should go with business casual, it speaks to your ability to follow directions :-D . I say this mostly for the people that feel pressured into wearing a suit because everyone else is. If you're really worried (which you should not be), then throw on a tie.

Thanks High Hopes! I'm glad a current student weighed in on this. It seems pretty clear in the instructions.

I agree. I am an admitted applicant from the EA round and I wore business casual for my interview. Follow directions - Fuqua is not trying to trick anyone.

Agreed. I am a current student as well. It is recommended that all wear business casual and that is all that is expected. However, if you feel more comfortable in a suit (some people actually do) then go for it. I wore a suit to my interview because that was more comfortable for me. You won't find any student interviewers in suits.

I received some good questions from a perspective. I thought I'd share my response for everyone's benefit. Feel free to add in your comments.

1. What courses / faculty members / programs at Fuqua can help me with my short-term goal of Management Consulting and long-term goal of Corporate Development? I learned about the Center of Consulting Excellence: https://www.fuqua.duke.edu/news_events/releases/447327/. Can you share some information regarding this initiative?

I am not looking into the MC or BD, so take my advice with a grain of salt. If you just want to get into MC, it really does not matter what course you take. The core courses will give you the basic tools. To get in MC, you need a decent GPA and lots of networking. Aside from the core courses, Market Intelligence and Competitive Analysis (by Dr. Lopomo). If you want to move into business development from MC, you need to network. It's unlikely that you'll remember anything you learn in school with any significant depth at that point.

The Center of Consulting Excellence is a very new development. I believe this is the inaugural year. The director is an ex-BCG consultant with 15 years of experience. She definitely have a good pulse on the consulting field. I don't think there's too much going on with the center at the moment. However, Fuqua is definitely planning to focus more in this area in the future.

2. What truly separates Fuqua from its peer schools?

The only thing that truly separates any of the top schools is the culture, the job opportunities are pretty similar (w/ some exceptions). Fuqua is really known for its collaborative curriculum and culture. Students help each other find jobs, even when we are "competing" for the same job. The alumni and second years are very helpful. I have almost 100% response rate when I reach out to alumni to learn about their industry. Most of the students are smart but not ostenacious about it. Fuqua has done a good job at admitting nice people, versus looking at statistics. We have one of the lowest average GMAT scores among the elites. Given our application volume, we can easily play the numbers game. There are a few other schools with similar culture. However, there are also schools that are very cut-throat and competitive. It depends on your personality on which school is best for you. You should do you homework on this, since everyone will say that his/her school is collaborative.

On the employment side, the top MCs recruits at all the top schools. At the level of the elite programs, almost everyone is smart enough to cut the mustard for consulting. What differentiate candidates is their ability to work in teams and interact with clients. The placement rate is more dependent upon percentage of students who pursue consulting jobs than on the school's prestige. Some schools have more consulting focused students than others, therefore places more students into consulting.

3. How do full-time MBA students benefit from Duke's 6 global campuses? Do you guys learn about the markets in these countries through these campuses? I mean do you take courses with local market experts in these campuses in order to have a global market understanding?

Full-time MBA doesn't really benefit directly from the global campuses. Occassionally, professors will bring up interesting comments that a global executive MBA talked about in another class. I think the biggest benefit of the global campuses is to build global prestige. Fuqua tends to have campuses in emerging economies that have the potential to be global powerhouses. We also have above average international population (and many of the internationals want to go back to their home country after graduation). I think it's a long-term bet, even though it hurts our rankings (employment stats/average salary).
