My essays are around 600 words, 12 Ft. If this had been the first application I submitted, I feel I would have been inclined to utilize as many words as possible (1200?) to take advantage of the 2 page limit. However, having been forced to answer similiar questions at other schools with 500-600 word constraints...It feels like even 700-800 words is excessive and long winded...I guess if you have enough additional content to discuss, you should use as many words as needed. But writing more, just because they give you space, doesn't make sense to me - not saying anyone here has done that of course.

I agree with you - After having written 2 applications and completing my final one post this, I am becoming a fan of the 500-600 word range. A lot of redundancies can definitely be removed ... and I am an Indian - we have the habit of writing a lot to convey (often) less. My Fuqua essays are all in the same range - First one is 620, the next is 520 and the last is about 500.

Although they say font size should not be less than 10 pt., would advise a minimum 11 and ideally 12. Its better for reading - looking from the adcom's perspective. Further, do keep atleast a 1" margin all around (the normal margin option in word). Using these, you won't fit more than 700-750 words on 2 pages, and I think that is MORE than sufficient. Plus, having 3 essays, each of 750 is a little too much in my opinion - 1 is fine, 3 is going too far.

This is probably going to be a really long post with all the quotes, but I think for Fuqua you really have an advantage here. I always just write my essays and not worry about word count. I would then edit to get the content and flow correctly and then edit to hit word counts. I found myself not needing the last round of edits. I ended up just doing quality edits when I was done making sure every sentence added value to the overall story without having to prune words/phrases to meet a count.

Just out of curiosity, how long are everyone's essays? Considering their max of 2 pages, font 10+ rule, we can go really 1200 words per essay. That's 3600 words for all 3 required essays! I am starting to feel like I'm talking too much! Did you have the same feeling? I haven't hit the button yet, but will do so pretty soon. Just thought I'd check in.

10 is the bare minimum Fuqua allows but isn't 12 the standard font size across most schools (and even industries?). Mine is about 700-750 words (font 12, margin 1'' all around).

Anyone have any thoughts what they mean by "organization" in the employment section of the application? Is this detail about your company? Or detail about what you did and your line of business?

They mention "briefly describe your organization". I feel a one-liner about the company and another few words about the business unit/LOB may be the best way forward.

Hello, a quick question.
I finished my under-grad in 2008 April and received the transcript with a provisional degree certificate in May. That is the date on my transcript. But I received my degree certificate during my convocation that was March 2009 and that is the date mentioned in the degree certificate. What date do I put in "Date degree expected/ received (mm/dd/yyyy)" section?

I think Apr-2008 would be the date under "attended until" and May-2009 would be the "Date degree received". HTH. Confirm from adcom if the doubt still lingers.

In the application's employment section, should the total months of management experience only include the experience of managing sub-ordinates who directly reported to me. I have lead a team of new comer as a senior colleague but my designation did not allow for them to report directly to me. Will this count as management experience?

Just realized that the GMAT test scores needed to have been sent to Fuqua *by* the R1 deadline. Is this necessary, or would it be okay for Fuqua to get it, say, 2 weeks after the deadline (if I send it across now)?

If not, R2 it is for me, I guess.

I sent them an email on this. The reply was helpful - scores need to be available at the school by the deadline itself. However, as applications are read in a random order, similarly they are 'checked' by the system in a random order. Any anomalies are checked for by the admissions team members. So if your score is missing, they will check whether Fuqua got it at all in the system and then let you know first that the score is missing and you will be moved to the next round. Between this stage and the application submission, the lag could be minimal or a decent bit. Hence, if you're lucky, the score report may reach on the 3rd and the admissions team may check your application on the 4th and you're good to go.

She did mention that they will definitely email you before moving you to the next round. FYI - I ordered a separate score report for one of my schools, and it was reported i.e. made available to the school within 24 hours.

Something really weird happened.

I hit the submit button but it didnt ask me to pay the app fee. Since I attended their info session in Delhi, I selected the app fee reduction and they confirmed it 10 days back. Tried calling Adcom but reached voicemail [weird, Im in India and still up and they're gone!].

Anyhow, what do you guys suggest I should do next. Sit back and enjoy the prospect of a free app might backfire if they get back to me later, say I didnt pay the fee and relegate me to R2.

Any suggestions?

This same thing happened to me as well. I also qualified for and received the reduced fee of $125. I tried to call the admissions office but they were closed. I sent an e-mail to admissions, so hopefully I'll receive a response tomorrow and will have more information at that point. It's good to know that we're both in the same boat meaning that hopefully it's an error on the website and not a user error. I would highly doubt that this would result in being deferred to round 2 (at least I hope not!)
