Speaking of which I'm curious - how many of you listed a school that was clearly higher ranked than Duke in the other schools section of your app (an M7 or Tuck for example)?

IHTG - good analysis, I agree with your points.

To answer your question - I named two schools in the same range as Duke, and left out that I was applying to Tuck and Kellogg.

I did the same, I listed three schools of the same rank as Duke, but I only ended up applying to one of them (that wasn't intentional).

Dang. I shouldn't have listed Tuck. What a dummy. haha. The other schools I listed where ranked the same as Duke and I added one that would clearly be a safety (though I'm not applying there).

I don't explicitly remember what I listed right now, but if listing a school ranked higher than Duke is why I get dinged, then shame on me.

OK ... Just how bad is it that I left this question blank? I had left this to the end and I did review my app a couple of times but I still missed answering this question. It wasn't until a few weeks later when I was rereading the PDF of my app that I saw that I left this blank. The "Check you application" button didn't catch this either.

I considered emailing the admissions office but then read in another thread (NYU) that the AdCom uses this to guage where the school stacks up and "it's OK to leave it blank", according to an info session. Still, who knows how Duke will take my non-response ...

Technically, though, I've only applied to Duke so far and I'm considering 2-3 schools for R2.

I think that's fine. Hell if I'd have known you could leave it blank I would have.

I listed all my R2 schools (Mich, NYU, UNC, Yale) that I will apply to if I don't get in to Duke.

Brought this up a couple times on other threads, but I don't understand why Duke doesn't simply say 'This will not affect the AdCom's evaluation of your application' in broad, Bold type right next to the question. They clearly, clearly would get a wayyyyy more accurate response from everyone, as evidenced by half the people here (myself included) are leaving schools out to make them think Duke's our #1. And isn't the point of this to gauge how they stack up?

Or at least some type of explanation of why it is included in the application.

As far as I remember, I mentioned Darden, Tuck, and Kellogg..all so-called GM schools, however I ended up applying only to Darden. As I did get admit, I am not sure whether Duke considered the relative reputation of schools I mentioned in aplication.

With regards number of applications, as per BW, Duke gets more applications than any of Ross, Tuck, Cornell, Darden. Last year it received 3200, so assuming this year it receives 3400, I consider it safe to assume that it must have received at least 400 applications in EA.

I think I included all schools. Maybe it shows I'm ambitous applying to M7 schools. Also, maybe it will let them know that they must "show me the money!" to get me. :)

Good point actually. I think if your a highly competitive applicant and you tell Duke you're not applying to a single school in the Top 10 they would conculde that you are either 1) lying or 2) lack in self confidence (don't think your good enough to app to a Top 10 even though your profile says otherwise). Neither of those are good. Of course I still wish I hadn't listed Tuck :-D

Honestly I don't think it's that important. If someone with a top 10 profile said they applied to University of Phoenix I think the adcom might go :dunnow , but it won't make them say "we can't let that guy in!!".

The same in reverse. If you've got a profile that makes Duke a stretch, but then you list Harvard, the adcom might think :gl, but they can probably also understand the idea of buying a lottery ticket.

I would assume that if you had a kick ass profile, they could probably figure out that you're likely applying to a top 10 school without you actually saying it.

Anyone knows how Duke will contact their admit? Will they call the applicants before Dec 19th by phone? Or the email is the only communication method?

I believe it's via email on Dec 19th, and you check the link in the email.

Good luck everyone!!!
