This is something of a late update, but I received an invite to interview a week after applying, and will be having an on-campus interview on the fourth. Best of luck to everyone!

The whole application to Yale SOM has been a really pleasant one for me - from the way they let you know on the website when they receive materials to the friendliness of the interviewers.

I'm on the same boat....

For some reason I feel that I am sitting here at a train station, and the 2012 choo-choo train is leaving without me. There are a lot of compartments, some big - some small (depending on each schools intake capacity.) All filled with happy admits, unfortunately for me, someone forgot to invite me to the party!

No need to worry. You didn't even apply to SOM.

Wanted to share my interview experience on campus last week, it was very pleasant, I had visited the school earlier this month, so just went straight for the interview after a lunch with student tour guides and other applicants. Interviewed with a second year student in my field (not sure if the assignment was on purpose), very conversational, walking through the resume starting from high school to college to each internship to my current job, to my career goals and how it relates to SOM. He said we had up to 45 minutes, the last 15 min for questions.

Good luck to everyone!

hey guys,

i was up at YSOM all day today for a campus visit / tour / class session. though i'd write a quick writeup of my thoughts:

- traffic from the nyc area was as usual, kinda bad. i probably could have taken an alternate route, but at least i wasn't late.
- morning started off around 9:30 AM in the admissions office, greeted by some adcom members and student tour guides
- first class was at 10 AM. we had a few options to choose from; i picked global macroeconomics, which i understand to be a new core course offered this year. it was a larger class, and pretty interactive.
- afterward we walked around for a quick tour of SOM. there seemed to be a lot going on around campus this week, with admissions interviews, fundraising by the internship club (committee? ), and international week.
- we went to lunch at the dining hall, where we got a chance to sit and eat with some of the current students / tour guides. they were really up front about anything you wanted to know about the area or the school, which was great. definitely an excellent resource.
- we had a chance to sit in on a second class. many people in my group were there for interviews today, so they didn't sit in on this second class. i picked an elective called 'competitive strategies'. the professor was really engaging, and there was a lot of back and forth discussion regarding the case. this class was also a lot smaller than the first one.
- the day wrapped up with a Q&A session with an adcom member. the adcom member stressed that interviews can come at any time, so not having heard back yet does not mean you are out of the running.

i'm really glad i got the chance to go up to SOM... hopefully this month will bring forth some good news. good luck to all you guys applying

So I wrote a thank you email to my interviewer with a follow up question I had about Yale and he actually responded! I was not really expecting a response as I know the interviewers are busy and I am sure they receive a lot of thank you emails, needless to say I am very impressed with the Yale community and the friendly nature. I just hope the Yale community, including my interviewer and the admissions officers, are as impressed with me as I am with them.
