Im having trouble deciding on my 2 offers. Any insight could help a lot. I have an offer from Tepper and Emory. Money really isnt an issue. I got the fellowship from Emory and I get about 40k/year to go to Tepper. I want to go into Finance when I graduate. Could someone please offer there insights?
If by Finance you mean Wall Street, Tepper has by far more street credibility than Emory, because of the quant reputation and established recruiting links. Banks don't go to Emory I believe (at least for Front Office.)
Thanks everyone for your comments. No I dont mean Wallstreet so thats not a concern. Im leaning towards Emory at this point. I hope Darden comes through and makes this an easy decision for me.
What type of finance is very important. Tepper has the quant. rep. on the Street but most that is mostly due to their M.S. in Mathematical Finance program. Most of the students who get placed into the top shops on the Street are dual M.S./MBA so that skews the data in the employment reports. You have to really look at the employment reports and search the companies that recruit at each school.
Tepper has a great reputation on the Street but very few banks have it as a target. Because you don't want to work in Wall Street finance, you have to dig deeper in the employment statistics to determine which school would be a better fit for your goals. Would you rather work in Corporate Finance at Coca-Cola or PNC Bank? Those are the type of questions you need to ask yourself beyond the Atl. vs. Pittsburgh questions.
I wish I did that research before I applied. I had Tepper ranked pretty high but realized after I applied that they weren't a good fit for my career goals.
