Has anyone gotten into a consortium school and NOT gotten a membership?

I got into one of the schools who said I don't get a membership, much less a fellowship. I've been internationally recognized as a proponent of minority education and nonprofit and I think I wrote a pretty convincing essay- as a woman and first generation immigrant who has played key roles in diverse nonprofits since she was 14. My current work puts me smack dab with Title One students at local schools. I just don't get why I'm not even getting the membership. It doesn't cost them anything to put me in the consortium network. This seriously throws a wrench in everything I wanted to do at school and as a career and makes me question whether or not it would be a worthwhile opportunity to invest 100k in an education that doesn't recognize my interests or goals.

Did my recommender screw me over?

I already know applying through the consortium screwed me in schools #3, #5 and #6. I wonder if I should just repeat this process next year and apply non-Consortium.

That's rough, and pretty surprising. Can you appeal the decision with the school (assuming you would want to go even without the fellowship)? So sorry to hear that :-(

No. I got the Consortium packet in the mail. I thought I'd get the phone call first but whatever. I'm just happy they accepted me. The membership and fellowship are just icings on the cake.

Is there anything out of the ordinary that might raise a red flag to the schools?

@vannbj not at all. I got into the school and was interviewed at other consortium school. Its kind of a surprise to me to not get the membership. However, I did have a recommender who was super late with my consortium rec (though he got it in) and i'm not sure if he just ended up filling out 2 lines and calling it a day.

Just to be clear, you were born in the U.S. and you are an under represented minority?

I'm Asian and a woman but not one of their listed minorities. However, my "mission" programs and every other nonprofit agency I have worked with catered to their listed minorities and it has never been a problem. I'm really more concerned about what this 'red flag' is. Obviously if I never got the membership, I was never even considered for the fellowship and therefore it may be to my advantage to figure it out and reapply (without schools 4,5,6). I mean, that is the most disappointing thought. After all this, i was never even in the running for a MEMBERSHIP.

Normally, I don't like to post my essays but this is what I used for my mission essay. Do you think it's good enough? Should I have changed something?

The mission for lagomez is to enhance diversity in business education and leadership by helping to reduce the serious underrepresentation of African Americans, Hispanic Americans and Native Americans in schools' enrollments and the ranks of management. I believe this mission can be achieved by recruiting for graduate business education qualified U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents who can demonstrate a commitment to the mission and can best assist the Consortium in pursuing this mission.

This is my mission. There are many missions like it but this mission is mine.

Thank you and good luck and good night.

OUT! Lagomez

Good enough you think?

@lagomez did you get the membership?

As a Consortium student, I believe I can utilize my leadership skills and past experiences in innovation and service commitment to increase representation of minority students as I have done in my college community and my local community as well as schools in [underrepresented community] through our current Title One initiative.
