Im having trouble deciding on my 2 offers. Any insight could help a lot. I have an offer from Tepper and Emory. Money really isnt an issue. I got the fellowship from Emory and I get about 40k/year to go to Tepper. I want to go into Finance when I graduate. Could someone please offer there insights?

If by Finance you mean Wall Street, Tepper has by far more street credibility than Emory, because of the quant reputation and established recruiting links. Banks don't go to Emory I believe (at least for Front Office.)

I'm not consortium, but I made this same decision last year. I'm a first year at Emory, and depending on what you mean by Finance, we're doing quite well. Specifically, my class is having its best year ever as far as investment banking goes (our class is 133 students and we have many going into IB at the top IB programs). If you're looking for sales and trading or investment management, it's a little more challenging. We have a handful of people going into corporate finance as well.

I respect the hell out of Tepper and it was among the most challenging decisions I've had to make (I had scholarship offers at both schools too). I strongly encourage you to attend our welcome weekend this coming weekend, and send me a PM to make sure we meet up and I can put you in touch with all of the right people.

Been following this thread for a while...1st time poster.

I received the Consortium Fellowship to CMU-Tepper on Friday via mail. Ranked them #3.

Going to decline my fellowship and enroll at Stern, my #1. Got an alumni scholarship for a little less than 1 year of tuition at NYU.
Tough to walk away from the cash but sometimes you just have to go with your gut...

Nope, and like my gut was tellin me... I didn't get a fellowship either. However, I was offered membership, and that is cool with my scholarship package. So I'll definitely be seeing many of you at OP! I'm just glad that this process is over, and that so many of us GMATclubbers were successful this application season! Good luck to all. I'm signing off... (I must admit that I'm a little excited to overcome this addiction). Peace.

Well, at the same time, I think I would have rather gotten a real shot at schools 1-6 instead of wasting my time on 4,5,6. I actually wanted to attend all 6 schools and my rank for each one was pretty even. I kind of feel that this wasn't a fair assessment of what schools i can get into and what opportunities I can receive. This whole non-minority thing grinds my gears.[insert tirade]

I am a minority. I got into the schools but no fellowship however provided membership. You may want to request feedback as to why you didn't get either one of them.

Hey Guys,

I am a minority, a FOB (Mexican) and set up two non for profit organizations. At the end of the day, I didn't get a fellowship from any of the schools that i applied to. I am not sure what critiria schools use to decide on who gets the fellowship.

my two cents.

After going thru this process I am convinced that the fellowship is not for community and "mission" support. Fellowships are used by the schools as their discretion as long as the "mission support" box is checked. They use these fellowships the same way any other non-consortium school uses a fellowship...to entice the candidates that they like to attend. Not for who does the most in support of the Consortium's mission. This is all my opinion of course.

I TOTALLY agree with your observation -- if a school really wants you, they will let you know through Membership, Fellowship or some other form of Scholarship. Rankings DO MATTER in our application process, but we have seen some schools offer fellowship to #4, #5-listed schools on this forum. Conversely, some schools become so offended by where you rank them, and you have a slim chance of being accepted let-alone membership/fellowship, as a result of their "elite/snobbish reactions." Most of us know who those schools are!

If you received membership (and not fellowship), you should still feel very proud of your admission accomplishment and recognition for supporting the CGSM mission. But I have to tell you, schools use a VERY SUBJECTIVE interpretation of "mission support." The threshold is totally arbitrary. So membership, and even fellowship, is a crapshoot. If they REALLY want you, they will show the love.

Heck, I was accepted to a couple of schools and still don't know about membership/fellowship! Schools say I will get a letter from the Consortium; the Consortium says I will hear from the schools! Obviously, I am not loved enough [yet]. You can't make this stuff up.

Who determines membership? The schools or the consortium?

Who determines membership? The schools or the consortium?

Given that 98% of the admitted students get membership, I sure the school/cgsm only play a role in those who shouldn't get it. It has to be a "Check the box" metric in my eyes.
