Has anyone who applied in R2 heard from Stern or Ross?

Where are you in VA? I'm just curious. I'm in Fredericksburg was in Richmond for four years and I'm from Hampton.

I'm still debating on whehter or not to submit my app to CGSM. I didn't do well on the GRE <800 total but scored 6 on the analytical writing section. I aced the mandatory core interview but bombed an individual school's separate interview (the rep was horrible). 5 years of work experience and owned a couple of businesses. I don't know though because I was rejected by 3 schools in 2007. So I am still on the fence.

$150-$200 is a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of business school. That $150 - $200 shouldn't be your barrier to entry. lol

Also depends on the schools?

Writing section doesn't really count much. If anything it can hurt you but can't help a whole lot.

Both parts combined were less than 800? That's almost the equivalent of a 360 GMAT. Honestly, I don't think that could get you in anywhere.

Sub 800 GRE combined score is a very steep uphill battle. If you scored a 6 on AWA then you obviously have the capacity to do well on the exam. You just need to study more. While I don't see anything wrong with applying to some schools you might be doing yourself a disservice. That being said, maybe you have an awesome story to tell.

Out of curiosity, what schools did you apply to previously? Was that with the gre score?

Right, my app would depend on work, essays, interview, and commitment to the Consortium's mission. At the very least, I've done well in all of those areas. Just wish I had majored in something easy like liberal arts then I'd have a 4.0 average but, live and learn.......

Exactly and that was the 1st time I had ever seen the test. I don't have money to pay for tutors or classes or any other aides. WOn't divulge previous schools. I didn't get in because I bombed half of the GMAT and scored in the top 70% on the other half. Again, though, first time I had ever seen the GMAT.

I don't know if applying will be worth it until you do get the money to help you with test aides though. If you get the right material, self-study can be a really big help. You might as well take the $150-200 you would have used for application fees and dedicate that prep materials (Official GMAT guides/Manhattan GMAT/Kaplan/Princeton review, etc...). Also in that light, paying $250 (GMAT) or $140 (GRE) to take an exam for which you are very unprepared is a waste of money too. I would definitely focus, almost solely, on test prep right now.

I've already submitted my CGSM application, but I did want to pose a crazy question on the school rankings.... Maybe schools offer fellowships based on how amazing your background is? Maybe schools rank applicants the way we rank schools. Let's say Haas sees an applicant with a 770 GMAT, 3.8 GPA, and amazing domestic and international work experience. I'd imagine they are chomping at the bit to offer a fellowship to lure that candidate, even if it was ranked #3/4. I'd think people with notably lower GMATs, GPAs and work experience are simply offered the fellowships if there are any fellowship dollars left to offer. It seems like at that point a school offers fellowships based on whether "middle of the pack" candidates have ranked them #1 or #5. So back to the initial advice that CGSM gives applicants. Rank schools according to where you want to go, rather than trying to game the system.
