hi guys,

i am planning a visit to Tuck on 17th and 18th of Jan. Is there anyone who is planning to do the same?

Any ideas on where I could stay for the two nights in Hanover: budget accommodation??

ATL already covered it, but the Hampton Inn in White River Junction is money in the bank. Great hotel for good price. I rented a car as I wanted to explore more options. Dartmouth coach will you run you $60 round trip, but then you are stranded in Hanover. The Hanover Inn sometimes has specials. I've seen rates as low as $200/night on Expedia. $200 + $60 (coach) is about the same as $130 off site hotel + $100 car rental + $60 in gas. It's a really nice hotel and you would be totally relaxed for your interview. No stress. Good luck either way!

^^^This is good info, but unless the Hanover Inn has been rennovated in the last 8 or so years, I don't think it's all that nice. It is, however, supposedly the nicest hotel (and certainly one of the most historic) in the Upper Valley. The bar is a good place to have drinks with visiting family. The rooms, as I recall them (from long ago) were dated. The Dartmouth Coach will drop you immediately infront of the Hanover Inn, which is itself directly across the street from Dartmouth College.

Here's a random question, does anyone know if Tuckies can take Tuck professors to lunch for free (as part of your tuition) at the Hanover Inn?

Haha! Yeah, nice is a relative term. It's quaint, and the location makes up for the quirky rooms. The Hampton Inn has been "Hiltonified" so I enjoyed my stay there. I just didn't have to deal with the snow in October.

Ummm.... no. Considering Hanover is mostly people connected with the college, the Hanover Inn would never make a dime if students got free meals!

Ummm.... no. Considering Hanover is mostly people connected with the college, the Hanover Inn would never make a dime if students got free meals!

You're thinking of the "take a professor to lunch" program that Dartmouth offers its undergraduates. Tuck does not have anything comparable at present. Also, the Inn is owned by the College, so profit isn't actually one of their driving motives (it made a loss every year for the last seventeen!) - it's basically just a decent place that the College can offer for visitors and alumni to stay when they're in town.

Refurb, ANTMBA is correct, there is a take-your-prof to lunch program at the Inn, but it isn't limited to Dartmouth undergrads. The "free" lunch program is open to at least some Dartmouth grad students. It doesn't really matter either way, I was just curious if Tuck students have that opportunity. It's less about the money, than the tradition, gesture and access to the prof.

The "free" lunch program is open to at least some Dartmouth grad students. It doesn't really matter either way, I was just curious if Tuck students have that opportunity. It's less about the money, than the tradition, gesture and access to the prof.

Hello everyone,

Now that we've submitted the app, here comes another essay for scholarship :)

I'm wondering if any of you has more information on this.
1. I read elsewhere (an old blog from 2007 I believe) that the scholarship is different from the adcom and they wouldn't have access to the application materials. Is that true? I would probably be repeating some of the info from the admission app for the scholarship essay.
2. Are there any merit based scholarships at all? The Financial Aid page does say that they have both need and merit based scholarships but the scholarship form is asking for the entire tax form and more (by asking for all the resources including savings, retirement and investment accounts etc.) My spouse and I make decent money and we've reasonable savings as you would expect for anyone who's been working for 4-5 years. They would just believe whatever numbers you write as I assume they would have no way of verifying right? But if they're only need based, I would think there will be lot of "trimming" in these numbers.

I just don't want to write another essay if there is no way I get that scholarship :? It just makes me uncomfortable applying for a scholarship with all these figures - they should really have separate forms for need-based and merit-based scholarships :-D And seriously, if someone equally qualified with a genuine need applies, they should get it anyway.

Even i am an Indian applicant waiting to hear from Tuck. Applied in Nov. round.
Btw, there is a Tuck reception to be held in Mumbai on 13th jan. Is anyone planning to visit that?

You learn something everyday.

BTW, if you invited your Tuck prof out for lunch, you have a very good chance of them paying anyways! But even if they didn't, it's still worth the price.

I couldn't agree more.

With all the talk of high deferrals from last year and a record number of EA applicants, who might pay for lunch in the future is the least of my concerns.
The next three weeks can't pass fast enough.
