one week....!

Perhaps less than that for some folks. Judging from last year's thread, AdComs from Tuck might start calling people starting Monday, December 13th.

I did some asking around and it seems like the numbers I'm hearing refer to different things. Also, you can never predict the future, who really knows how many of the deferrals will accept? Either way, if you want to come to Tuck, don't let it stop you!

RF

i am willing to give my kidney for admission to Tuck! this won't stop me. just worry that it might hurt my chances. :?

I know I am being over optimistic :bouncer But are there past instances of international applicants getting admitted without interview?

Would someone like to comment on this please?

hey BlueDreamer - I doubt it.
sorry to say it.

BlueDreamer, I too doubt that they will admit candidates without interview. Smoewhere in the archives of the Tuck blog, I read an admissions officer stating that they interview all candidates that they admit. In addition, there are many Tuck alums in India and its highly unlikely that they couldnt find one to interview you, unless you live in a B/C town far away from a major metro.

The only other instance I can think of where they may waive the interview requirement is if your essays and accomplishments are so outstanding that they dont merit any further enquiry. When invited for an interview, I was actually given a deadline by which to complete it, implying in my mind that adcom wanted to ensure they have all the material when they lock themselves in a room to "craft" the class.

From what I read on these boards, Tuck is also careful about taking in candidates that will not get bored out of their wits in a rural American setting. During my interview, the alum asked me multiple times if I was sure I would enjoy a rural setting with virtually no shopping - this after me telling him that I am a mountaineer that spends good part of a year climbing mountains in solitude and that I studied in a boarding school in the Himalayas for 10 years that was scores of miles from any city.

If I were you, I would still hope for the best but spend my energy on preparing for the 2nd round deadlines. Dont lose hope but at the same time, be prepared for the worst so that your efforts for other schools are not unduly hampered in the event of a ding.

I apologize for the slightly negative tilt of the post, I am similarly preparing myself for the worst. Tuck is my dream school and I really hope I am accepted but I am still preparing applications for the other schools if the news from Tuck isnt great.

Best of luck !!

I would agree to the above statement as I personally raised this question in a recent Tuck reception and the admissions director told me that the expected class size is 260-262 as it would include the 10-15 deferals from previous year. Though 35-50 (not sure of the number) students might have accepted deferals last year but looking at historical yields of 50-60% only half of them would actually join this year and the adcom would accomodate the additional students by increasing the class size.

Hope this helps to clarify the math.

i personally know someone who deferred her admission in 2010 and will join in 2011. although i know that my friend can not be used as a reference to calculate the % of deferrals who would join (as this would amount to a sampling flaw), but i am sure there are many more.
1 important fact that can not be ignored is that the typical deferral yield of 50-60% (or whatever the figure) is from students who self-defer (due to several considerations, including their disinterest in the program and desire to reapply next year). however, this year was different. Tuck offered an incentive of US$ 10,000 (whoa!!) as tuition fee waiver to lure admitted candidates to defer. this led to many sincere, genuine and committed candidates opting to defer. i would expect a higher yield out of this group. i don't know how big/small a dent this would make in our chances of receiving an admit. but it is a cause of concern for me till i answer that PHONE CALL!!

I talked with some current Tuckies and was told the amount was $20,000 actually. Although 50 defered, the class was still at 282. I guess it's either Tuck admitted quite a lot or the yield was quite high.

For blue - folks please stop giving false hope. Unless he's an Olympic athlete or an advisor to the President (even then they'd want to meet him!), it's over.

Tuck already has a self-initiated process, and if you're not doing that, you're decreasing your chances to interview. They're not going to issue invites through decision day because of the self-initiation process.

Being realistic and pragmatic are good traits and necessary if you want to go into business.

I would probably have to agree with this. At this point your best bet is to hope for a deferral (to the next round) or a waitlist. Both can be given without an interview.
