Just getting back from my interview with Cornell.
Like Arzad above, I went to The Consortium interview day. My interview was with the Director of Admissions.
Interestingly, I think I over-prepared. A good friend of mine was recently accepted as a park fellow and he and I went through questions the day before the interview, but surprisingly only a few that we rehearsed came up.
The interview started out with a simple, ''walk me through your resume,'' and everything spun-off from there. As I was a non-traditional student, working my way through a large portion of my education, I had to weave in and out of work and school. It was a little tricky as that's something that can't really be modeled in standard resume format. But, I think I did well with it. It seems like we mainly talked about my vision, how Johnson fit my plans, and what I was doing to prepare for my education.
Also, I'm focused on the Sustainable Global Enterprise track. She seemed to want to check with me that I knew I'd be working harder than most to get my internships and jobs. This came as no surprise so I was comfortable with the question.
Questions that I was asked that I hadn't prepared for were; tell me a time you faced an ethical dilemma in business and what companies do you know that are hiring mba's for what you want to do. Both great questions. I handled both well but the latter question has me thinking about doing more research for companies hiring sustainability minded mba's for the niche work I'm looking into.
All in all I think it was a great interview. She seemed to encourage me to be myself and since it had a natural flow it kept me from going into a pre-rehearsed answer. Thinking back I'm kind of impressed with the interviewers skill. She did an excellent job of gauging my fit.
After that I was able to ask some questions and had some good ones prepared based on my knowledge of the school and the program I'm into.
Johnson is an impressive school. I hope I get in.
Any questions, reach out to me anytime.
