..I don't think most people are applying to Berkeley EWMBA because they can't get into a top full-time program...
At Haas the full-time program acceptance rate is around 13.2% compared to the part-time acceptance rate of around 47%. So how is it exactly you think that "most people" accepted into the part-time program could also get into the full-time program? Statistically, that's extremely unlikely, not even taking into account that the applicant pool for full-time programs are generally going to be more competitive in almost every respect except perhaps work experience.
Whether baller041 would prefer a part-time program or full-time is up to him of course, but based on his numbers, at least he'd have a good shot at a top full-time program, assuming the rest of his application is strong as well (essays, interview, recommendation, employer brand, value fit, etc). And the opportunity cost difference may not be as high as you think. Many people believe a full-time experience is richer and offers more opportunities due to its immersive nature (which means you might "get more"). Additionally when you're younger, you're typically making less money anyway. And what about the time you spend in a part-time program? There are opportunity costs to that as well. You could be moonlighting in your spare time instead of going to school which would equate to more $$$ (nobody ever seems to talk about this).
There are counter arguments of course, and I don't want to turn this into GMAT essay so let me just say this: Baller041 and anyone with a similar profile should not feel too distraught. It looks to me like you should have plenty of good options for yourself now and in the future.
