I'm thrilled to have submitted my last app for this season too. Looks like 8/66 admits for R1 = right around the 12% that you'd HBS usually admits. I think, like many of us here, that my profile is competitive but I'm certainly no superstar.

I just cleaned out some of my application books, and threw away mountains of notes. It's taken months of my time and effort, and a good chunk of change too.

Good luck to everybody here.

Hello,
I need an advice here.
as for third reco: lower level manager who knows me well vs ex-upper who knows me little vs dean of my undergrad faculty who knows me well ?
the first two: current supervisor, executive director of my department

Conventional wisdom always seems to say that you should find recommenders who know you. It seems like you already have two work-related recommenders who probably know you well. If this is true, is the lower level manager going to add much new info? If you think he will, then maybe that's the way to go (although then I would ask whether the the first two recommenders really know you very well). Otherwise, I'd probably go with the dean from UG. He can provide an alternative perspective on your academic performance and abilities. The "ex-upper" who doesn't know you very well seems like a bad choice.

For what it's worth, my three were a current supervisor/manager, department head from UG major, and another professor from senior year. The first two knew me extremely well, and I had a good relationship/rapport with the third from the semester in his class.

thanks for the advice- seems like I will go with the UG professor

Does the application get pushed to the next round if my recommender cannot get the rec in by this evening?

It depends. (But don't tell your recommender that. Let 'em sweat!)

Here's what Harvard's Admissions Director recently posted on her blog:

Quote:
Do I have to wait for my recommenders to finish before I can submit my application?

That's an easy one to answer: no.

We hope that all recommendations will be received by 5:00pm on January 19. Of course, that rarely happens. Our advice: don't wait until you get the notice that your recommendations have all been submitted before you hit the "submit" button for your application. We will start to read your application as long as two of your recommendations have been submitted. "Late" recommendations received within a day or two after the deadline will be added to your file.

Bottom line: you need to have two recommendations already submitted. Then you have a grace period of a day or so. I hope that helps.

I don't know 100% for sure--but I'm pretty positive that if you don't have 3 recs you can't get into HBS. Anyone have better information on this than that?

I'm with you, LB20. Agnok, my impression is that you have a couple days' grace to get that third recommendation in, but you must submit it to be considered for admission.

If you think your third recommender is going to be a few days late, and there is a good reason for this, you might try calling the admissions office to see what they say. If you think that third recommender is never going to submit, or will submit too late for you to be considered in Round 2, you might try finding someone else right now who is willing to turn around a recommendation for you quickquickquick -- i.e., in the next day or so. Good luck!

Last minute tweaks to my application...

This might be considered a minor question, but on the application, what do most private equity professionals put for Job Function? They don't have PE, so the closest ones I believe are Finance: Investment Management; Finance: M&A; Finance: Venture Capital; or Investment Advising.

I called the school but of course they brushed it off, saying to put whatever I think seems closest

Does HBS need our official gmat and/or transcripts before we get admitted?

Accordingly to first round's post no-official-papers-until-admitted-list-88244.html it seems like they don't.

But in my online application form, HBS states that all applicants are required to send in official GMAT scores, but transcripts are only required after we get admitted.

Just got a little confused with this contradicting information. Fellow applicants can someone please clarify?

When you took the GMAT, you had the choice of reporting your scores to 5 school. You can't escape that. As long as you chose HBS as one of the five you are safe. See you official score sheet to see the list of schools you chose, or log in to My MBA section on www.mba.com. Otherwise, log into the www.mba.com site and request that they send your scores to HBS right away.

And official transcripts are to be sent after acceptance.
