Hi Fuyu,

Tough to provide you with a holistic evaluation in the absence of a test score as well as defined career goals.

While your differentiated background will prove to be value-adding, the job switches will invite questions and should be explained well.

Aiming for a score in excess of 685 on the GMAT will be crucial as HEC Paris has been very competitive in recent years.

Good luck!
Fuyu
Hi, I want to consider HEC in my top priority list for MBA, mostly due to the opportunities it can provide for my aspired field of work. But, I have several doubts on where my profile holds. So, I have:
10th – 10 CGPA
12th – 83.2% (Non-medical stream; scored 100 in one subject)
Bachelor’s in Fashion Design from a Tier-1 Design College – 7.7 CGPA
Secured an All India Rank of 120 in the national entrance exam for my undergraduate program.
Previously dropped out of an engineering college (educational gap). Also hold a diploma in Interior Design and have completed a few relevant certification courses.

Work experience includes:
– 9 months at a well-reputed fashion brand, where I successfully completed a collection; clientele included several celebrities
– 3 months at another popular brand (let go due to internal reasons beyond performance)
– 4 months at a third respected brand, where I again contributed to a completed collection; clientele included Sheikha Dana Al Khalifa, Princess of Bahrain
– Currently working in the family business for the past 8 months

The transitions between roles were driven by internal restructuring, creative misalignment, and a conscious search for long-term professional direction.

I’m yet to take the GMAT and am currently preparing for it, aiming to score well.

Hello!

So your 12th and 10th scores aren’t valid when you’re applying for a masters/MBA. It’s everything you’ve done starting your undergrad that’s taken into consideration. To share some insights on the rest of the things:

1. Your undergrad CGPA is strong hence you do not need a GMAT/GRE to compensate for anything but rather to be good in isolation. Even though I’ve seen similar profiles with a 310 also get in, I would personally have more confidence in the application if it’s a 320+. Worst case it doesn’t work out- you still very well can apply!

2. Professional: Your company and role sounds good but I need to know more about your future goals (industry and geography wise) and role progression in the last 4 years to be able to comment better!

Would be great if you could send your CV on DM and we can then get on a call to discuss properly once I’ve a better overview of your profile.

Thank you!
Hello Krishna,

I would need some more details about the timeline, role, and UG details to comment on this better.

Would be great if you could share your CV on DM and we can then get on a call to discuss further.

Work experience, especially numbers are not (and have never been) the only factors determining the strength of your candidature.
SH provided the other factors are strong and your application components (resume, goals, recommendations essays etc present a compiling narrative, and your GMAT score is above average, you would have a good chance)

@arpitharakesh285 - Strong profile overall, given the international work-ex and extracurriculars.

However, the GMAT is on the lower side. What was the sectional split? And do you foresee an improvement if you were to retake e.g. did you score higher in mocks? There have been some cases of similar (or lower) scores making it to HEC, but the probability isn’t high.

Also, given that HEC has both Sep and Jan intakes, looking at R1 for Sep’ 26 intake is an option to consider, if you decide to retake the exam.

Arvind

Hi Arvind
Appreciate your feedback ! Thank you :)
I’m aiming a re-attempt in 1 month- would a 645 do?
A 655-665+ would be ideal, but yes, a 20-30+ point improvement from your current score will increase chances as well.

Your profile shows academic consistency with a great GMAT Focus score of 705. At 3 years, your goal and leadership maturity must come through sharply in your essays. Emphasize the quality of work, leadership, and upward trajectory. Leadership roles in hiring, project delivery, and receiving the “Project Champion” award reflect strong upward career momentum. Your undergraduate involvement as Chairperson of the IEEE student branch, your role in organizing tech-fest events, and your representation at the Hult Prize Tokyo Regionals showcase initiative and global leadership outside the classroom, align well with HEC’s emphasis on global leadership.

Questions to Reflect On: Can you connect your GenAI consulting experience to a larger industry transformation narrative that would resonate with schools like HEC or INSEAD? Do you have enough international/cross-cultural experience? If not, how can you position yourself as “globally minded”? What is your ideal short-term role post-MBA: MBB consultant, tech strategy manager, product lead in healthtech?

To strengthen your application further, focus on crafting a clear, impactful narrative about how your past experience in AI and healthcare logically leads to your post-MBA goals. Happy to learn more about your profile. Feel free to book a profile evaluation session.

Hi, it looks like you have an extremely competitive profile and if you do manage to get a good GMAT score, I’m going to say the answer again.

So, it looks like you have an extremely competitive profile for the HEC MIM course, especially if you do get a mock score of 730 or an actual score, not mock score, of 730 or above. So, you should very much apply to HEC, but I would also advise you to mitigate your risks and apply to other schools that are not as competitive as HEC, so that you can mitigate your risk across schools and have a higher chance of getting into some good programs. But if you want a free profile evaluation, do write to us and we’ll be happy to help you with it.

Hi, it seems like you do have a fairly competitive profile for the HEC MBA program. It would definitely help if you increase your GMAT score and since the average work experience for the HEC is 5 to 5.5 years of experience and you might only have four when you go to class, it might be wise to consider working for one more year before you do apply.

Additionally, you should also look at mitigating your risks and apply to other schools. And if you’re looking for a detailed profile consulting as to what other schools you should apply to, do write to us for a profile consulting.
