Hello,

So there are 3 broad profiles you can divide your profile into to assess where you stand.

1. Academic: Your CGPA is a bit low but 7.8 in MTech alongside a 680+ FE will surely cover it up. You’ll be fine for HEC and other top unis in UK Europe too since GMAT averages are lower for top unis in UK Europe than in USA. Would still suggest using up some application space (additional essay or remarks under grades) to explain what caused the low CGPA! Always better to explain any gap you’re aware of front end.

2. Professional: Work experience sounds good but would be able to comment better if I’ve a brief idea of the growth you’ve had professionally- roles, companies, exposure, goal alignment, international exposure etc.

3. Extracurricular profile: Community impact, entrepreneurial venture, social initiatives etc. Again would need more information on these aspects to be able to comment better.

However, I always believe that out of the 3 profiles- academic profile is the one that you cannot change once it’s out there. If you manage to get a 680+, everything else can be managed once you’re aware of what matters, what doesn’t, what are the scoring factors your target unis look at etc.

For a much more concrete discussion about your base profile and application roadmap, you can hit me up on Whats App on +9199714 44312.

Would be happy to help!

agnee - some thoughts and clarifications on your profile:

  • On the academic front, was your GPA 6.9 or 7.8? And if former, any particular reason e.g. was it low during certain semesters?
  • Aiming for a 675+ GMAT would help strengthen chances at HEC
  • Which company/ companies have you worked in, and what's the nature of your role(s)? Any promotions?
  • Anything on the extracurriculars side? Schools such as HEC value this

Hope this helps. Feel free to reach out for a deeper chat.

Regards,
Arvind

Hi, while it looks like you’ve studied at an elite Indian school, your CGPA isn’t very competitive, and your M.Tech CGPA is actually closer to the lower end of the average range. That said, if you’re able to get an extremely competitive GMAT score, that could strengthen your application significantly. Of course, much will also depend on the nature of your work experience, your career progression, and the kind of accomplishments you’ve had so far.

HEC does tend to prefer candidates with some international exposure, but they do admit applicants without it as well. Ultimately, it all depends on the specific details of your profile and your GMAT score.

Lead different projects like SEVADEEP(taught underprivileged children for 2 years) and also UDAAN for empowering women. I’ve been teaching students since I graduated so total of 3+ years of experience in teaching. I’ve also worked on research papers for topics like sustainability in small corps. I’ve been currently writing my book too. While preparing for GMAT and CAT. I’ve been getting 715-720 in my mocks. I’m doing my best to improve it further. I’ve been also planning for 2026 sept intake. Given this profile what are my chances to get into HEC for Masters in Management/ Masters in Finance?

Hi! Your overall profile does appear competitive.

While HEC Paris does tend to prefer candidates with international experience, they also consider applicants with exceptional leadership and impact, even if their experience is not global in nature.

To assess your fit more accurately, it would be helpful to understand the kind of accomplishments, initiatives, and leadership projects you’ve been involved in.

Feel free to write to us with more details about your background, we’d be happy to offer personalized guidance on your HEC Paris application.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi Lalit,

You have an exceptional profile, with a strong mix of extracurriculars, impactful initiatives, and meaningful work experience, especially your time as a teacher.

If you’re able to secure a competitive GMAT score, a Master’s in Management or Finance at HEC Paris could be a great fit for you. That said, your final GMAT score, along with the kind of leadership and initiatives you’ve taken on in your teaching role, will play a key role in shaping your application.

If you’re looking for detailed, one-on-one consulting support, feel free to reach out, we’d be happy to guide you through the process.

Hi Ayantika,

While your GPA may be on the lower side for a highly competitive school like HEC Paris, your work experience with well-known brands and within your industry definitely makes your profile stand out.

At this stage, what could truly set your application apart is a strong GMAT score and evidence of leadership initiatives or high-impact projects you’ve led.

If you’d like a more detailed review and are open to sharing specific examples from your work experience, we’d be glad to help.

Hi agnee,

The IIT pedigree will help set you apart and the analytics/AI experience will add value to your overall work experience.

Having said the above, considering your undergrad GPA is on the lower end of the spectrum, it will be beneficial if you can exceed a 685 on the GMAT - the higher the score, the better it will be for you.

We encourage you to inquire with us so we can schedule a free strategy session for guiding you.

Thanks and all the best!

Hi, I am a IIT graduate with very little extra curriculars and a low gpa(6.4, it is approximately 69% in India), I have a GMAT FE score of 685(I will give the gmat once more) and a work ex of 3 years as a analyst/consultant at a reputed company. I took a break for about 10 months in between. What are my chances at HEC?
